Teeth on my spur gear broke off.
Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this, two teeth on my spur gear broke off while I was driving today. I have a MP9 and this is the first time this has ever happened to me. A small rock may have caused this problem but I am not sure. What else could cause this to happen?
Cheers!

If you went of a big jump and you hit the ground while giving it alot of gas you could have striped the gear also. When you land a jump let of on the gas, if you don't, your tires will hit the and jam and put alot of force on the gears and strip them. You could also just have gotten a rock in them.

Its nothing unusual. I've done it on my buggy. Nothing to worry about. As mike said, you can strip them from landing hard on the gas. It may also of been rocks, or prehaps bad casting. Or it may just have been bad luck..

are the teeth on the bell ok ? did the spur just spit out a couple teeth ? or did the motor move and the CB teeth do the damage ? a spur imo is one of the strongest pieces on a whole 1/8 car...and stripping them is something out of the ordinary for sure...Not a common occurrence at all.....and Kyosho parts at that....maby its a fluke...but i doubt it.

A bit off topic but: How can set the gear mesh perfectly? I tried to use the "paper between the gears trick" but it stil ratteled a bit. Does a perfectly meshed gear make any noise? I mean perfectly silent. thanks
I dont wanna strip some teeth

If it doesn't have any play (make a little noise) it will burn up. The meshing of tight gears will create even more heat than them just pushing against each other. Hence the demize of gears close at hand. That little bit of noise is OK

Ive done that before.
Only once and i was driving horribly (first day off road.)
I landed a jump on full gas, and it was a weak cen spur that stripped..
But i have seen it happen yes.

Hi Integra,
Mate, the teeth on the clutch bell are fine. Yes, it was only the spur gear. What annoyed me, was that it was pretty new, I replaced the orignal 46T to a 48T spur gear. What may have happened, is that when I took my Ninja engine out for maintenance and replaced it with my OS Speed engine I may not have engaged the two gears spot on. It was running free but may be a little to much. Ie not the clutch bell was not close enough to the spur gear. What do you think?
