Throttle return spring trick ?
 

As I posted last weeK I suffered quite a bit of expense due to my car doing a "run away" on me ! [:@]

Somebody told me to put a Biro Pen spring on the throttle to stop it from doing this again.

Can anyone tell me how to do this or show me pics of it ?

I too would like to see a pic of a return spring on a Hyper7. I was scratching my head trying to figure out where to mount it. [sm=confused.gif]

Slinger, what was the total damage assessment of your crash? Anything else hurt besides the head? I got my new Hyper7 out for a few tanks and what a blast. Who needs 1/10 scale when these are so cheap and twice the fun?

I use two springs, could never get one spring to close the carb properly.

when you said a "runaway" what did you actually mean. was it just happen sometimes or is it when the throttle gets "stuck open" when batteries go dead or something. if this is the case, then a fail safe which can be picked up for about £10-£30. they automatically put the throttle to idel when a signal is lost or batteries run out.

today that throttle return spring would really have helped me i always run with a failsafe but in this case it was useless.... i got up to full speed and my throttle servo scre came off and i had no breaks or power at the servo cause the horn came off and went down a road at full speed and if i had that spring it would have saved me... i am now going to buy one in case that happens in the future...thanks for the pic of how to do it

Incorrect my friend ! A failsafe only guards against loss of signal, NOT loss of power ! ;) Ive used a failsafe since the day I bought the car.

Well I had to get a new head, remount and realign the engine and fix a front shock spring. It could have been a whole lot worse though ! [X(]

Well I don't know what kind of fail safe your using, but I don't want one of those!
I have a Futaba FP-T3PB PCM Radio with built in fail safe & when theres loss of power it stops the car dead in its tracks! I also have a JR radio on one of my other cars & I use an Ofna micro fail safe adapter & it does the very same thing as the Futaba!

So you might want to look into a new fail safe my friend..

If my Rx pack falls below 4V it will close of the throttle as if the signal were lost, so my friend I know I was right.

no failsafe will help you if your (not even your futaba radio) crystal pops out or fails, or for some reason power ( ie voltage) is severd from your servo you are stuffed without a mechanical failsafe. ( ie spring attached to the outer hole on your throttle horn and mounted onto one of the springs on your center diff tower )

I meant if the batteries fell off or got disconnect. Thats what happened to my car when it did a runaway ! [sm=drowning.gif]

No problem! I hear you on that case for sure! I do run a throttle return spring too just for that reason though. I hate run-a-ways, thats alot of money running out of control!

Man thats awsome, were can I can one of these Tx's, what do they do? summon power from the ground to close the throttle when power is lost to the Rx :) amazing

Well the last time I checked, an Rx pack at anything above 4v falling below 4v is a "power loss" & thats what I was talking about! Everybody should already know that if a complete power loss occures, a fail safe (being an electrical device) is of no help in this case!

as rubber band does the same purpose as a return spring.
