Nice engine! Though I don't know if the pictures you provided are appropriate due to the engine being "naked" ...WOOHOO!! :D

You know, I noticed something about the JP engines: they have a small bit of epoxy on the front part of the crank (the front part meaning the side that is facing the front bearing). From my observation, the epoxy is on a slant and in functional terms, should provide better fuel flow and much smoother rpm transitions!

Hey oldchopdoc, whatever floats your boat, I say go for it. I guess everyone has their own preference about engines. I usually prefer the underdog engines and just play around with gear ratioes. I mean, companies make extra gears for their buggies for a reason, right? Why not take advantage of that! Plus it's much more fun trying to unlock the full potential of an engine at variable ratioes! :D

Nurch- all of the 2004 Novarossi Engines come with that Lightened/ Filled crank. Rex, Top, JP, Crono, Berg. SO if you buy a novarossi engine in the future and it doesnt have it in the crank, its the older model.

RE: Picco P7

I'll post a pic of the filled type crank when I get home in the morning.

RE: Picco P7

Oh wow, thanks for the info Skyline! Do the Novarossi engines also have that small bit of epoxy on the inlet port of the crank to provide smoother fuel flow, like the JP engines? I think that is what you meant by "filled" but I want to make sure for future purposes.

SKYLINE350GT 08-18-2004 11:02 PM

RE: Picco P7

Yes thats what I'm talking about.

They actually machine out the crank, and fill it with this epoxy that no one yet knows what type it is yet. This makes it lighter, helps the fuel flow, but adds to maintenance. Dont leave fuel in any of these motors or spray anything into them at all. Even WD-40- it will eat up the epoxy and cause a big red mess inside yer mota.

RE: Picco P7

I am surprised the epoxy will last an endurance race then. You have both heat and constant fuel flow beating away at the epoxy. I guess it is a freak of nature type deal with this epoxy. Especially since WD-40 also affects this substance.

Thanks alot for the info Skyline! I wish all engines would do this! [8D]

the epoxy resin is put into the crank to reshape the inlet as companys like JP etc bore out the insides of the crank to get more airflow down the middle! the epoxy tidys up the end nearest the carburettor & also directs air down the crank;)
some of the Modified On-road engines have had this for a while;)
apparently all the new 14mm cranked Novarossis etc have this but the Top421B i'm using doesn't[:o]
i think this is because mine was a very early engine, (i've been using it all year) but i've read somewhere that this filling is done on all the engines now:D

RE: Picco P7

And here's a tip for all 8 port pro/race users. The Rossi/Top/Rex 421B crank is a direct swap and helps against sheared big ends.

the Picco P7-R is available in the UK from [link=http://www.topoptions.com]Top Options[/link] for under £200 if anybodys interested!

RE: Picco P7

That would make it cheaper to get the Basic Pro UK and engine seperate. And thanks Adam for showing I'm not going mad.

Does he do deals for American customers? 200 lbs is a little steep in terms of American conversion.

not sure about any special overseas rates?
but that £200 is cheap in Rip-Off-Britain!

Exchange rate is the killer for you guys on the other side of the pond, even after you lose the VAT we have to pay [:'(]

Bonus for me is that Russ is less than 20 miles from me and I have to drive past his place 4 times a week :D Not quite so good for my CC though :(

My buddy at the LHS called me this morning. He said the Omega X-7R isn't due out till late next month. He pre-ordered me one at a sweet price.

TBH I've managed to avoid the place for the last couple of months but the rate I'm destroying my EB4 I guess he'll be trying to sell me one soon :D

that is kinda pricey. the conversion says that motor would be equivilent to about $365us. oh well...if i let money get in the way i never would have started racing.;)

i got a Picco P7-R yesterday & have looked inside! it looks pretty sweet:D
it should go pretty well, looks like its ported more as a torque engine than a screamer, but i'll find that out as soon as i get to run it:eek:
