Picco P7
Does anyone know who carries the Picco P7 in the states? If not does anyone know the Ofna name for the same engine?
|
RE: Picco P7
The closest thing I have seen is the Omega P7-R. Forgot where I saw it available at though. I'll let you know If I come across it again.
|
RE: Picco P7
Ofna no longer imports Picco
look here http://werksracing.com I don't see that motor but they should be able to help you |
RE: Picco P7
Omega and Picco are the same manufacturer. Just like Rossi, Rex and Top. So that was a P7.
|
RE: Picco P7
For more info on the P7 range (there are 5 varations). visit www.teampicco.com
|
RE: Picco P7
The Omege variant is the V7.

RE: Picco P7
The problem with the links above is that the Teampicco link says Werks Racing is the American distributor. Werks Racing doesn't list anything above the P3. I e-mailed them to ask about the P7R and pricing. This is the same problem I was running in to before. I'll wait for 'em to e-mail me back with an answer. The P7R is 3.6 hp @ 36000rpm. Hope I don't get sticker shock when they write me back!
Thanks, I'm going to check on the Omega now. |
RE: Picco P7
Found out the Omega cross of the Picco P7R is the X7R. Horizon sells it for $299.99, but ti's the 2.3hp @ 30000 rpm version. I found out the 2.6hp @ 36000rpm engine is for touring cars and not off-raod use.
Here's a link to it http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/prod...prod=OMAX75850 The 3 engines I'm interested in turned out to all be priced with a few dollars of each other. Rb WS7II, O.S. V-spec, and the Picco P7 (Omega) Thanks guys, I appreciate it! |
RE: Picco P7
hey DOC my V-SPEC is excellent so far its great and soo powerful.
|
RE: Picco P7
So which one are you going to go after Oldchopdoc?
|
RE: Picco P7
yea tell us DOC?
|
RE: Picco P7
I have found that Picco are very conservative with their figures. I would say the P7-R was near 2.6Hp not 2.3. I've got a few friends here that run it and there is no way there is less than 2.5 ponies in there.
|
RE: Picco P7
Well, I was going to say the V-spec or the WS7II, but.....Grahama(darn him):) has me wondering again![:o] This would have been much easier if you hadn't put that last post on! I'm about ready to flip a coin.
What do you guys think. I run mostly medium length, technical tracks with a few jumps that are just a hair loose. I like engines with quite a bit of torque, but not over board. Top end isn't the real issue because we don't set up many tracks where you can really wind a buggy out all the way. Low to mid range power is where I want the engines strong side to be. I can use gearing to help me on tracks that are longer if the engine has enough torque to pull out of corners with a lower gear ratio. Which one do you guys think for these kind of track conditions? I heard the V-Spec is all about bottom end. Do you know about the other two? So far you guys have helped me a bunch! |
RE: Picco P7
what about the Novarossi P5?
stump pulling bottom end & a screaming topend[8D] thats my next engine, i got one on order right now;) |
RE: Picco P7
Why not get the Sportwerks .21 engine and gear it down? I am sure simple mechanics will have you up there with the big league engines. Plus alot of the people at my track do not know about gear ratios and just change engines left and right.
|
RE: Picco P7
adamshowtime,
Nothing against the Novarossi. I considered it, but it didn't finish any lower than 8th in the worlds. In the current SLRC points series it isn't doing too well either. The field in SLRC events is dominated by OS and RB who both have 4 of the top ten positions in the points series. In the worlds RB, Picco, and OS took the top slots. JP took 5th and 6th, but guys I run against say JBs have short life spans. Nurch, You can bet I'll be playing with the Sportwerks .21! They're cheap enough, and if it doesn't work out I'll have a spare for my son's Mayhem. It is a pretty quick engine that most people don't even give the time of day to...unless they own one. |
RE: Picco P7
The JP's have a short life span? I beg to differ ( Knock on wood) Im having EXCELLENT LUCK with JP FX's. Have more than 2 gallons on them and for the first time I can say- When cold- My pistons still gets stuck at TDC. First time I could ever say that about a motor is with my JP FX, and when other people said it before I alwasy called them out on it. Guess I was wrong.
oldchopdoc- dont bo by what the motors did at the worlds- that is a COMPLETELY different type of track than we will ever see in the states (unless we goto an onroad nitro race) and more onroadish powerband type motors won that one. Grahama- I know that omega and picco are the same thing- BUT "Omega and Picco are the same manufacturer. Just like Rossi, Rex and Top. So that was a P7. " - Grahama Rossi is a different company than Novarossi- which makes the RB's, Rex, Top, Crono, Berg, JP FX ( and who ever else wants to slap there name on a motor and sell it as wells) Rossi makes the Pixi engines as well as the Black Magics and Maranellos. |
RE: Picco P7
In all honesty, I dont know why people dog on the cheaper engines. I mean, I like to try and gear down the cars or gear up, depending on the situation, before I buy another engine! :D I think that Sportwerks .21 engine is a sure competitor. I like it...no, I LOVE it! Oldchopdoc, try some gearing ratioes and see how they fare. I bet you that you will keep up just fine to the guys who think the engine is the deciding factor to winning. I am not poking at anyone here (since I see nothing but knowledgable folks here), just what I have seen goin on at my track sometimes.

RE: Picco P7
Skyline,
If you read my post it says guys I run against told me that about JBs. I have never messed with one myself. As for the worlds, that's not all I'm going by. I'm just trying to find out info on the 3 engines I mentioned because I like them. If anyone knows where the main strengths of these engines lie as far as power band goes would you let me now? I mean strong on low-mid-high. Nurch, I plan to try it out, but I also want to try out a couple of other engines. I run against some guys with "hot" engines and don't have a problem staying with, or romping the drivers that are about my level. We've got a few guys that could run away from just about anyone there on driving skill alone, so that's not who I'm comparing to. |
RE: Picco P7
World's Edition Picco P7-R ought to be out soon!
I just got an answer from Picco. All shipments of Picco built engines are on hold for the plants vacation. Shipments should start coming in around three weeks. They said I might want to hold off because a Worlds edition is coming out soon. The P7 that was ran in the worlds might not have been a stock p7 after all! |
RE: Picco P7
ORIGINAL: grahama89 I have found that Picco are very conservative with their figures. I would say the P7-R was near 2.6Hp not 2.3. I've got a few friends here that run it and there is no way there is less than 2.5 ponies in there. so are they good down low? i just got my paris picco running again and have decided i like the picco's a little more than my past novarossi's. i almost ordered another pro bv last night but thought id wait for a few replies to this thread. i just hope this old paris picco will last through the pro series this month! |
RE: Picco P7
the UK based Hobao drivers have been using modded Piccos for a while now!
there are 2 types available, one by each Picco brother;) i don't know which the best one of the two would be? i would also imagine that Yannick was using an engine he'd modded himself as the ARD Omegas he distributed through France & the rest of Europe were really good:D with the kind of volume a worlds edition engine would sell i'd guess that they would be just a lightly modded P7-R;) thats just my guess, bearing in mind how long it takes to fully mod an engine:) |
RE: Picco P7
Yea I hear ya, It does take a while to fully mod an engine, And if they are and modding all of those Worlds Editions- that is going to lead to High Costs- Kinda like that Sirio Worlds Edition that is never gonna sell more than 1.
So if they were smart- it would either be modified from the press or just a little slight modifications in the sleeve, crank, exhaust port and timing. |
RE: Picco P7
i've got an ARD Omega in my 777 & i had a look inside that to see how modded it was!
apparently they have a "selected" piston & sleeve which is then modified both around the exhaust port & the transfer ports. the casing also benefits from a polish around the transfer areas & exhaust port AND the crank is modded too by being perfectly matched to the intake, the timing is slightly changed & its been profiled around the counterweight , what other companys call a Bi-Turbo crank & has been polished throughout its bore aiding flow;) these mods made the engine over £100 more expensive than the stocker over here! i don't think they'll have time to do that many full mod jobs with the numbers they'll be selling? luckily for me i'm just running in my ARD Omega atm so i already got a fully modded engine by the fastest driver in the worlds:D |
RE: Picco P7
just remembered i saw some pics on a French site;)
