pull start problem on hyper 7.

When i pull it to start the engine, at the begining of the pull up to 3-4cm it makes that noise pop-pop-pop that it always did(which is the compression).BUT after those 3-4cm out it just feels loose and it doesn't make that noise.I don't know if the engine is turning at that loose stage but it doesn't start at that.I must keep doing it from the first 3-4cm to get it running. What's wrong?

you "one way bearing" is worn or wearing out,,buy a starter box while you're still young

You can try taking it apart and cleaning the oil out of the bearing/shaft area,,that might give you some more life out of it, but it will completely fail on you,,just a matter of when,,,

I got one of those 8-ports in a trade,,,the damn thing stopped working before I finished the break in,,you are way better off getting the stock back plate and buying a nice Ofna "true start: box,,you willl be happier in the long run, JMHO

$20 for a new pull start that will break again vs. $100 for a pull start set up that will be reliable for years,,you do the math ;)

Good luck

RE: pull start problem on hyper 7.

My Hyper 7 pull start lasted for about 2 gallons of fuel, or about four weeks. As soon as i got the starter box and big 12V battery, all for $63, life is so much easier. Like the man says, you'll only have to buy another pull start or replace and maintain it soon.

The guys at my track told me to leave the pull-start on the engine and just plug the hole to the pull chord with a grub screw, they say that it helps the engine run a bit cooler. I live in a subtropical climate, so maybe just a little can help on hot days. The diference in wieght between the pull-start and replacing it with a back plate are negliagable, unless you're racing with the pros.

Has anybody heard about this theory?

I've seen an article about pull starters and it seams to me that if you take it apart and remove the socket with the wire and then put it back is like having a plate that everybody uses for non pull start engines. Is there any other differences?Isn't it just a cover to cover that engine nut?

if you remove the pustart it will look like this
http://www.maxxtraxxusa.com/Images//03.jpg
that shaft if lubracated by oil from the engine, if you run the engine with just the pull stat back plate like in this photo
http://www.maxxtraxxusa.com/Images//21.jpg

The abvsence of that shaft in the oneway bearing will cause a major air leak

you want to leave it all on or take it all off and replace the back plate with a standard back plate part #53017

Here is what you have to remove in case you decide to go for a non pullstart backplate.I did the same to my buggy coz the pull start pissed me off.

If i make a roto starter back plate will this or something alike be good to start the engine?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...359262856&rd=1

It does offer good rpm and it doesn't have that much power as a 18V drill has to kill the engine when hydrolocked.RIGHT???

that would ba a good idea except for the fact his motor isn't tapped for the presure line

He could drill and tap the case I guess,,,stock back plate is a way simpler mod
