what's the difference between the ofna hyper 7 pcr and the ofna hyper 7 pbs?

is one more raceworthy?
which one is tougher?

There indentical except one thing, the PCR has a laydown servo tray and the PBS dosnt.
The lay down trays is supposed to lower the CG.
I have the PCR and i honestly couldnts say if it matters much, most likely not
Oh yea the stock bodys are alittle different

The lay down servo positioning and the 'PCR' (Paul Coleman Racing) branding. Nothing else.

I know someone with a PCR (Chris), who now wishes he had the PBS due to servo config problems. I too seriously doubt the laydown servo affects the CG in a quantifiable way.

The hyper7 pbs is definately race worthy and "one" of the toughest rtr's out there. Same goes for the pcr version. It's just a matter of preference wether you get one over the other. Personally, I would get the Hyper7 pbs over the pcr.

They are both tough, but as stated many many times, the laydown servo is basically just a fashion thing. It's a lot easier to deal with the normal servo-layout. Therefore go for the PBS

No - it's just more difficult to access the servo.

The gas/brake servo arrangement is more complex at the pcr as seen on the picture.

so just more parts to replace if they break? and is the reaction time slower or not as powerful due to more parts? and does that setup break faster than the other setup?

Rustler, you're in danger of getting ignored because you keep asking irrelevant questions. Your questions have been answered. Everybody thinks you should get a PBS. What are you flapping about? Go out and get one!

For the record: PCR has laydown servo, has no discernible advantage or disadvantage in terms of performance or durability. It is a pain in the ass to work on though. I didn't know this, but Engrose knows what he's talking about so I am sure he is correct if he says that the throttle/brake servo positioning is similarly different on the PCR. Again this does not necessarily mean that the performance or durability is affected, it's probably just a side effect of the different layout. You're obviously not racing at a competitive level, so the extra $$$ spent on the PCR would not be worth it either.

You have your answers, make a decision.

i will be racing. im going to pick up the pbs once i have the money. some guy at my lhs said that ofna buggies were crap. then i talked about the prospec, and he said it was crap, he said get the mbx5. im like, dude, you a freakin retard, the prospec is the mbx5 with the goodies. he's like, ooh, i thought you said the mbx4.

I get more throw on the steering with the graphite lay down system than the standard hyper servo tray, with the standard one the servo arm would hit the steering plate earlier thus preventing as much lock on the streering, so installing my lay down system did make a difference over the stock servo tray, i do think as you guys have said the CG of this system does not make much difference to how the car handles though.

I am not getting a multi-tool to butcher my car just to save a few bux, this makes a considerable difference on the amount of streerng i get, all i am saying is tat i am happy with the value for money just to get the car around the track better, small things do make a difference in racing, now for bashing there is no point changing to this system only for looks.

Let me try to clarify the whole PBS/PCR thing. First of all, OFNA can be somewhat inconsistant in the way the RTR's and kits are packed, but here is how they were last time I looked.

PBS - Has pivot ball suspension, stand-up servos, plain stamped aluminum shock towers, aluminum bones without universals. The center diff is the 8 gear spider type. The servos and radio are slow and cheesy, the pipe is almost useless. [>:]

PCR - As mentioned earlier, basically a knockoff of the PBS except for the laydown servo which are not needed. [&o]

The two RTR's above are really very entry level and, ok to chase your neighbor's dog or cat with, but not race worthy.

PCR Pro Kit (best bet for the buck and very competative) - Comes with C-hub and pivot ball components for the front suspension. Comes with laydown servo tray and linkage, but the standard one is mounted. Shock towers are CNC aluminum as are the braces, all drivshafts have universals, all diffs are standard 6 gear type. Has quad brakes, chassis is milled out to save weight. :D

I'm surprised to hear you say that. I have just ordered a PBS RTR (I am entry level when it comes to 1/8th buggies, but an experienced on-road racer), and I will start my 1/8th off-road racing career with this buggy. I have a reasonable budget on a monthly basis to inject into the buggy, and was wondering if you could recommend a series of hop-ups (not including the engine, servos or radio) to make the car more raceworthy? Anything you can recommend would be most helpful. Is the rolling chassis of the RTR Hypers really that bad? [:o]

Just because some new guy says that the Hyper is bad, you don't need to panic. It's not bad at all from what I've seen. And I don't think that you need to upgrade a lot of things from the beginning. Take it in steps and see what breaks or what others at your track has upgraded. You have ordered better servo and a humppack as far as I remember.
