1 Attachment(s)
hi all, im having a bit of a dilema, i stripped the car today and washed it with wasing up liquid and water, well that went well it dryed, i took the elecs and engine bare in mind, but i turned the rear hub carriers and they were tight i stripped that and air compressed the gunk out, then re assembled it, but still the same i stripped the diff and water came out is this the problem?
please look at the pics, there is loads of gunk in there aswell do i need to take it all apart then wash it then wait to add my new oil in thanks hd |
RE: help needed with diffs
First off,, stop using a water hose to clean your car, it will rust up everything metal
Second, what is all the redish on the ring gear?? hi-temp silcone gasket materail (RTV)? If this was an RTR, clean all the grease out (all the grease) and rebuild the diffs with Diff oil 5k front 7k middle and 1k rear is a good basic set up |
RE: help needed with diffs
hi it wasnt a rtr i was told by a friend to use 1k in the rear 4 k in the middle and 2 k in the front ok i wont use the hose anymore my bad, i have seen loads of people use jet washers, 2nd the redish is the colour of the actul thing, had anytips what to use to clean it out all the grease
thanks |

Wow,
then that's rust,,, no more water my man When I spray down my car I use Denatured alcohol and a siphon sprayer The I make sure I dry the car completely with an air compressor spray nozzle I used, lacquer thinner or acetone to clean the metal parts and Simple green to clean the plastic parts The simple green really cuts the grease and dirt |
RE: help needed with diffs
I use WD 40 for cleaning out oil from diffs and it works really well. I just spray some into an empty can, split the diff apart and chuck it in (not the o'ring). Use a tooth brush (old one preferably) to give it a good clean out. When finished, use kitchen towel or something to dry it off. Then fill it back up again with diff oil.
Talking of which, 4000 sounds a bit low in centre, 10,000 is more common. Dont mean to preach to you, you may have a good reason for running 4000, just thought it was worth mentioning. |
RE: help needed with diffs
hi these settings are for a fast and very high controlable car this is what my friend uses, so nebengoo i just take the diff aprt from the pics and spray wd40 and wipe the excess off either start with an old toothbrush or a cloth yes then waiting until i get my oil?
thanks for the help guys hd |
RE: help needed with diffs
Its normally fine to rinse off your car with water just make sure you blow off the accses water with air then coat the car with WD 40 after that take the high pressured to it once more, no more rust and everythings lubed

RE: help needed with diffs
hi what part of the car dealspeed the chassis ?
|
RE: help needed with diffs
around the diffs around the hubs aswell would you recommend
|
RE: help needed with diffs
You can just spray them but i find the best way (and cost effective) is to spray it into a container. You end up with about 1" of liquid WD40 that you can just drop stuff into. Really gets the crud out. When you finished, seal the container and use it again later. You can easily clean out 3 diffs with it.
It will look crappy after 3 diffs but dont worry, still works fine. |
RE: help needed with diffs

RE: help needed with diffs
done the rear one full of gunk and sh*t, just took the centre off thats even worse than the rear, is there any tips on what oil i should use i have been told for a fast controlable car 1k in the rear 4 k in the middle and 2 k in the front loads of people have said 4 k in the middle aint enough or do you think it'll be ok

RE: help needed with diffs
As mentioned above 5-7-1 is a good start point (front to back)
I use 3-7-1 and find it a nice set up. |
RE: help needed with diffs
ok thanks hyper drive well, my diffs are off just need to get the oil now my car is all apart in a clear box:( ah well get the oil, then will be ready to go then, what does it mean 1k is that 1000 like on the bottles it has 10,000 would that be 10k
|
RE: help needed with diffs
k = kilo
Since kilo means 1000 then: 1k eguals 1000 10k eguals 10000 etc. etc. |
RE: help needed with diffs
