RE: best engine?

there are a whole bunch of good engines out there, it depends on how much your willing to spend

a lot of people like the p5,novarossi has a whole bunch of powerhouses to choose from, and the os vspec is also a very good engine, so is the picco p7r

if you dont want to spend that much, the sh pt2004xb .21 is a very good engine for like $150

RE: best engine?

OS RG is all I will run. Two hundred bucks cheaper than the "top tier" engines. I don't care what power those engines promise. I could use that extra money to buy a two speed for my 9.5 and a JP-2 (the latter of which I did) at which point, no engine could keep up. But I am cheap, so thats just me. I suppose if I raced, I might drop the three plus bills for a better engine, but for now my RG does plenty good waxing my buddie's Hyper and my other buddy's Sportwerks .26 (the driver of the sportwerks kinda sucks though, otherwise I think that motor would have the edge).

RE: best engine?

Best all around engine in my opinion is the Novarossi (Rex, Top, Crono, JP) P5N, RS5, B5N. Expect to pay around $279 more or less.
Best engine for the money. Novarossi N21B- You can find em for $150-200. www.nitrohouse.com is running a special on them. And PDLRacing1 on ebay has a few he will let go of cheap if you talk to him.

ya os21rg for $110 NOTHING can touch it. we have 4 or 5 guys at our track that run them. they consitantly smoke the $300-$400 motors all day long.:D

RE: best engine?

Ok I have an RG and I also have a P5X NOVAROSSI and the RG does not stand a chance against the P5 sorry to tell you but it depends alot on the driving if the two drivers are equal the P5 will win every time. So to answer the question on the original thread P5 if yo have the money and are wanting to race.

RE: best engine?

It depends on the track. On a tight track with no really long straights an RG will hold its own. The P5 does have a bunch more top-end and the RG can't compete with that. No doubt about it the P5 is superior in every way but for about $100 the RG ain't bad.

simply Blue
JP - Crono - Rex - Picco
V-spec is kind of ok but after a cpl of laps it states to lose power

RE: best engine?

people always say with equal drivers...

with a pair of n00b drivers, identical buggies, the RG will ALWAYS own any highend engine, because they wont be able to stay outta the pipes OR the pits:D

RE: best engine?

NovaRossi and RB Concept put out the best engines... but when you want the best...there is a pricetag!

the club I am in... it is mostly OS RG or Vspec engines.. some others too tho.. rossi's and stuff.. but OS is most popular...

that's because the people in your club read biased opionions like pn this website. Let them ALLLLL get some racing experience and they wil learn!

RE: best engine?

This is how I see it:

V-Spec: super reliable, really smooth powerband, makes the power of a 5 or 8 port w/ the fuel consumption of a 3 port (it is actualy a 3 port), easy to tune

P5, Hot Mods, or JP Mod: SUPER long legs and it'll have ballistic acceleration. even w/ a sticky or "heavy" clutch, good reliabilty, a little tricky to tune if you've never tuned a race engine before

Depending on what track you go to, you may want a P5 based engine if the track has a lot of long stretches or sweeping turns where you need a lot of speed because of the amount of top end this motor has (when you're driving it, you'll start to wonder if the top end will ever run out because when you punch it, the engine will make power until something breaks and the top end just keeps going and going). One the other hand, if your track has a lot of turns and rythem sections, you may want to go with the V-Spec because of it's smooth powerband and the fact that it makes a lot of it's power on the bottom end. Also, the V-Spec runs a turbo head wich means that you can really rev this thing out to something like 44,000 RPM or something like that.

Personally, I like the V-Spec and I would highly recommed it to anyone in a heart beat. I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever, and so far I've ran about 2 gallons through it and it just keeps getting faster. Also, I love the fact that it's a 3 port motor that puts out 2.94 bhp!

RE: best engine?

I agree with Skyline the Novarossi N21B is a ripping little 3 port as well. I think I may pick one up soon.

forgive my ignorance, but as far as top end goes, how does a turbo plug make any difference?

It's not the plug in so much as the design of the button, the conical shape to the cylinder just aids the mill to spin up quicker. A clssic example is the P7-R, available with either head type, the Turbo version does have a higher RPM limit, the only part thats different is the button which the plugs screw into.

RE: best engine?

The only reason I didn't want to buy a P5 is because you need to have a starter box.

What is an engine in this class that is a pull start?

kx250ryder 08-25-2005 08:06 PM

RE: best engine?

None of the "high end" race engines are pull start. Most racers are fanatical about performance, and the one-way bearing on the pull start creates far too much drag (although not noticeable by mere mortals) so manufactureres don't include them.

I don't like pull starts because they break and require extra maintenance. A starter box may be a pain to lug around, but its reliable and beats the arm pump that a pull start can give. If you are bent on a pull start though, *cough* OS RG *cough*.

Talking about the engines dont you know how many BHPs has the kyosho's engine GS21R and duratrax's engine mounted in Axis?

RE: best engine?

I know it's expensive but you guys all seem to be forgetting the RB's. The C5 muct be crazy, though I've only ever seen/driven the WS7 II. It has more bottom end than my V-Spec but the V has a little more mid end, tops about the same.

Vince15 08-26-2005 05:39 PM

RE: best engine?

2.1 BHP.
thanks, but 2.1 BHP has kyosho engine or the duratrax engine ? Or both has 2.1 BHP ? i ask cause looks like it had much more HPs... ;-)
