Hyper 8 owners
Hi , I`m getting a Hyper 8 this week and have a few questions . I searched but did not find anything without looking through 20 pages on the H8 thread . What diff oils is a good start point for this bug on low -med traction tracks ? What about shock oil ? I run 45 weight in my mayhem , would it be pretty close to the same or not ? I`m just looking for some setup tips for when I build it . I know when I had my Hyper 7 I ran 553 in the diffs , but sure the H8 is gonna be different . [/size]

RE: Hyper 8 owners
good luck with that question. i bought a hyper 8 a couple of months ago and havn't been able to get any set-up info on it. you would think that since the people on here are so eager to recomend the car they would also be eager to give out tips on it too. also i have tryed running a similar set-up to the one i have on my xb8, but the H8 handled like crap with that set-up. also tryed various other set-ups all with the same result (terible handling). so now the H8 just collects dust on a shelf at my house.
EDIT: i have also used the search function and read the entire H8 thread. every post i find where someone ask about tips or how to fix a certain handling charicteristict the advice is always something like. "well you obviously need to buy such -n- such upgrade part" I honestly have begun to wonder if anyone really races the 8. |
RE: Hyper 8 owners
There are a lot of them at one of the tracks I used to race at . The owner of the track basically ripped off the cancer society so I don`t go there anymore . I found a few setups on the Ofna forums , I`ll find out this weekend if they work for me .

Dawman, try it as it comes out of the box to start with. You might be surprised that little is needed. There is starting to be a good collection of tuning tips on the ofna forum site that don't require that you go out and buy any bling whatsoever.

Diffs are prebuilt and installed. 3,000/3,000/grease. Shock oil is 40 I think. You will have to assemble the shocks. Use the white pistons and keep in mind that you may want to go back and drill the holes one or two sizes bigger depending on the track you run on. On the ofna site there is a mod for the rear wing mount screws. I suggest that you go ahead and do it, keeps the screws from pulling out allowing the wing mount to break.

RE: Hyper 8 owners
I am all so getting a Hyper 8 shortly and it seems when I as question in the Hyper 8 thread I do not get a reply. If you go to Nitro House they have 2 set up sheets for the Hyper 8. One for loose bumpy tracks and one for track with large jumps, this is all I have found so far and if you found out more please let all know. I am far from new to nitro just new to buggies.

RE: Hyper 8 owners
Im running 40 front shocks 50 rear/1000 front diff 5000 middle and 3000 rear. All that said, make sure you have a good selection of tires. Most around here run bow ties or similar type. You can run lighter oil in the shocks and stiffn them up with the spacers then when you rebuild the shocks change to a thicker oil.
It all depends on the track too, 46u said it best, check ofna site for there set up and just tweek from there. My set up might not work so well on your track but it works great on my track. Also check out page 2 on the H8 thread, it has the PCR mod like, need to do atleast the rear wing mod. GL. |

I have probly 10 -12 different sets of tires for different tracks and one track is totally opposite towards the end of the day . |
RE: Hyper 8 owners
Will these tires fit the Hyper 8 kit wheels? I think they would be better for the local track then what comes with the kit. Will be running on a fairly hard packed clay track.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...7&I=LXALU5&P=K Any one have any other suggestions? Thanks All. |
RE: Hyper 8 owners
Those will fit fine. The wheels included in the kit are standard size, just shaped different with the holes. They hold up pretty good, just a little more pricey than a dish wheel.

RE: Hyper 8 owners
Are the foam inserts that come with the tires pretty good or do you have others you recommend? I know the ones that came with my Savage tries where not real good and I used other ones.

RE: Hyper 8 owners
you can try my h8 set up here it is FRONT diff 4k/ 6deg. kick up/ 20 deg. caster blocks/ 2 deg. neg. camber/ 0 preload on sway bar/ spacers are behind on upper a arms/ shocks are inside hole on a arm and second from inside on upper hole on tower 32 wheigt oil 1.4 piston/ middle/ diff 4k/ 60/40 brake bias/ rear/ diff 90 weight losi shock fluid same as runnin 900 weight diff fluid/ o preload on sway bar but will sometimes run 1mm./ 2 deg anti sqaut/ 2 deg tow will chang to 3 deg. if needed./2.5 neg rear camber/ shock oil 27 1/2 losi oil shocks are 3rd hole out on the top of tower inside on the arm camber link is second hole up on inside and out on the hub benn runnin crime fighters or step ups and knuckles 2.0 in the mains all m2 compound. this set up will have the very slightest on and off power push and i mean very slight the best way to drive this set up is to let the bug role through the corner instead of stabbing the brake and you can usually nail the gas comming out. its been working well for me and i to know there isnt very much info on set up for this bug its to bad the ofna drivers cant take an hour of their time to give the public alittle support and post some simple set ups being we do buy the product they race with and are sponcerd by. every other manufacture like ttr xray and so forth have and give alot of support for their product. i guess degani and kortz are just to good for us little guys.[:'(] oh and bye the way where were they at the farm! LOL oh ya stuck in b main land LOL:D

RE: Hyper 8 owners

RE: Hyper 8 owners
You can try my setup.. http://www.savefile.com/files/8588123
Might need to adjust the ride height, but start with universals level in back, and above level in the front. Also depending on track condition, take out some of the droop. |
RE: Hyper 8 owners
I can't open the file I dont have some program.

RE: Hyper 8 owners
You have to go there the hops and pop ups but I got it. Do you have Adobe as that is what open it for me.

RE: Hyper 8 owners
hyper 8 works well with 3,000 in front 3,000 or 5,000 in the center and 1,000 in rear. the stock oil is 20 weight in the shocks but 30 in the rear and 35 in front with drilled pistons work great # 54 drill bit.

RE: Hyper 8 owners
Just ran my H8 today for the first time . I set it up to a set up I found on Ofnas forum for my track . WOW!! what a feel , that thing is awesome !! Handles great and very responsive , it is nothing compared to the Jammin` I had . All the tuning options on this , reminds me of a Xray . If anyone is thinking of getting a H8 , get one and be amazed .
