RE: MATRIX BRUSHLESS???
I will say that the unit I was useing was a pre production unit but I understood it was as the production unit was going to be. That being said it was about 9 weeks till they realy released the Max to the public. I have 6 Maxes inhouse and have not tried them on 5s because of the past. The ones I have are the mose recent release so there may be a diferance. I will be on the phone today conferming upgrades to the units. They run 4s great but I do not like to start fires so I have not been willing to destroy another $1500 car. I cannot release all information because of non-disclosure agreements but I can say the it was an 1/8 scale conversion on an Serpent Vector 2wd. The motor was a Neu 1509/1D. The batteries were Max Amps 4000 cells. The thing ran for about 30 seconds befor I noticed a problem and I ripped off the body. Litterally ripped it off. I looked at the controller and it was smoking all wires looked good. I wanted to unplug and turn it off. I flipped the switch and the thing went balistic. It then crashed into a concrete wall at at least 60. This wall was about 50 feet from where I was. Everything burst into about 10,000 peices. The battery did not fail and I still use it today and the control was a melted nightmare. Now I had been running the set up with 4 cell and 3 cells for about 2 hours and it was great. The only change was the 5 cell. Even when the the control was smokeing it was not hot to the touch so I know it was not over amperage. The data logger never worked after that again. The Quark might be the better choice if you continue to use the outrunner. It has multipole programming in it already. THe Max and the BK donot. THe Max will have it soon as an downloaded upgrade.

RE: MATRIX BRUSHLESS???
Wow.... Sounds like quite the scene! Thanks for the warning and your input. I will definatly be careful while using this on 5s.
I recently had a quark go up on me, the only difference was that the first thing I did was yank the battery plug. I think that saved me from alot more damage. Just fried the ESC.. No Other damage. Quark had a relacement back to me ina amatter of 10 dadys. Excellent cervice. What you described souds alot like my experience with Schultz.[sm=48_48.gif] Both Schultz units I have owned have gone up in the same very dramatic fashon. I have also had a Mamba Max fail. But my expewrience with the failing Mamba was that i went out with a whimper, not a bang. It was running on 3s and then just stopped working all together. No smoke or fireworks. To CC credit. Promptly replaced with no questions asked! Not like the 4 months it took Schultz to tell me that I ''had a loose connection'' and that is what caused the controller to go up in a burst of smoke and fire. |
RE: MATRIX BRUSHLESS???
I needed to find out what was going on. Everything was cool to the touch. My first thought was that the bec had smoked (there is a reason for that). So I wanted to unplug the battery but first I needed to shut down the system. It may have been coincidesce but the moment I hit the switch............zoom bang. I really had no time to do anything. I had and have never seen anything like this again. I am rigging up a 1/8 buggy and I am going to try the 5cell again.

RE: MATRIX BRUSHLESS???
RURC,
Well I guess you can say I told you so. Cuz exactly what you said would happen... happened. A mamba Maxx and 5s in a 1/8 buggy = Smoke and Fire. No major damage other than to the Mamba Max itself. It ran OK for a few packs, but it was just pushing to hard. It seems like it will be totally stable on 4s but 5s is just a little to much for it. I'm going with the quark this time. The $50 replacement Mamba Max from CC will find its way into a 1/10 somewhere around here? Gotta love a $50 ''for any reason'' replacement plan. In all honesty without that plan I would never have tried 5s with it. Anyway.... hope someone else can learn from this |
RE: MATRIX BRUSHLESS???
Guys......i have read through most of this thread and it's got me excited about getting my older MBX-4 XR works into an electric monster.
I have a speacially designed motor mount i came across off of ebay about a year or so ago , but just never used it yet. It's made to bolt onto the chassis of a mugen MBX-4 or MBX-5 and be able to hook up a 540 sized motor. I have two questions......... 1.) If i was going to go with the quark 125B , which motor (want a NEU or plentenburg.....think i spelled that wrong?) would go good with this ESC? and what size LIPO packs should i be running? 2.) If i wait for the new MAMBA MONSTER MAX........what motor and battery pack should i go for? I'll be running some pretty big 1/8th scale typw tracks , so will need a lot of power , but not the type in which it'll be snapping CVD's and tearing up the rest of the drivetrain from all the power. I'm going to use this MBX-4 as a test bed , but what to get a complete motor/ESC set up that i won't have to upgrade later. i plan on installing it later into either a 777 chassis or MBX-5. Thanks guys!! and sorry , i don't mean to hijack the thread , just looked like we have a ton of really good info here......just wanted to join in. JEFF PS....also........RURC , i sent you a PM , showtime reffered me to you. |
