RE: Really need HELP!!
I've always used loctite on those screws especially the screws that hold the engine to the chassis. Pretty much you should use loctite on any screw that threads into metal.

RE: Really need HELP!!
About how tight should I make it just so that the clutch bell spins freely??
|
RE: Really need HELP!!
Shim it so that it spins freely with the clutchbell screw on very tight.
|
RE: Really need HELP!!
How do you shim it? thanks
|
RE: Really need HELP!!
can i say the obvious? :) with shims! ie: washers
|
RE: Really need HELP!!
On all my vehicles the instruction manual says to use loctite so I all ways have.
|
RE: Really need HELP!!
You should shim it so there is just the slightest amount of play. As far as lock tight goes use just a touch on teh CB screw if you use too much it may transfer onto the bearing and seize it up. I however dont lock tite this nut because i am always working with the clutch. The motor mount screw need always be lock tited.

RE: Really need HELP!!
Never loctite that screw, one day you'll be in a rush and you'll strip the head, then you'll see the agony of that mistake. Just tighten it up by hand, then give it a little nip.
|
RE: Really need HELP!!
yeah use locktight with caution on the CB screw. In most cases you can nip it tight enough to stay but sometimes it just works itself loose. If this continues to be a problem, use the smallest amount of locktight and always use a low strength because as Da Smak says, one day you will regret it cuz you'll destroy the screw head trying to get the dam screw out the next time you put some new shoes in.

RE: Really need HELP!!
I bought that ofna shim kit and was able to get it really tight with no locktight. Thanks for all your info.

RE: Really need HELP!!
I loctite all mine and if there is any problem in getting it loose I just use some heat. So far never had to. Just think what can happen if it comes loose at full RPM 30,000 plus! [X(]

RE: Really need HELP!!
No,
Do Not use locktite on that screw. One time it will just stick in there and you will strip it. |
RE: Really need HELP!!
YES you wanna use loctite on any screw that goes into metal and espeacially the engine:D
as far as the clutch bell make sure you have it were it spins freely(using shims if neede) and then yes put a drop or 2 of loctite on the clutch bell bolt and tighten it:D |
RE: Really need HELP!!
You should use loc-tite on that screw, just don't use "red" use blue.
also you must check that screw before and after each run. |
RE: Really need HELP!!
Use loctite. Blue loctite. Also, NEVER use button head screws there. Use a cap head, you can tighten it down more and if it strips you can get it out with a pair of pliers. |
RE: Really need HELP!!
you can use button heads... one some buggies there's no room for a cap head , like the 8ight for example...all you need is a dremel with a cut disc on it...cut a groove in it if you strip the head and back it out with a flat head screw driver.
i only loctite it 1 time..without the cb one it...let the loctite dry then back the screw out and put everything on it....i do the same with the wheel nuts.. |
