Budget Engine
I am wondering what the best lower cost engine would be. I am new to nitro and I dont want to send alot on my first motor and damage so I am looking for a cheaper motor for now and get a more expensive 1 when I learn how to tune it. What would be a good motor and pipe combo for a first timer and I would like something that is easy to tune and easy to find parts if I have to.

RE: Budget Engine
STS 21B its $120 at www.projectzen.net
thunder tiger 21 I think its like $130 or somthing you can find it at Amainhobbies.com |
RE: Budget Engine
I have been looking at the sts but the site I have been looking at shows them out of stock is there a way to find out if its in stock on this site??

RE: Budget Engine
if your talking about www.stsmicroengines.com and/or www.nitrocountry.com for some reason those two places are having a hard time getting STS stuff, but the link I gave you (in the post above) I bought mine form that guy, he said he's having NO problem getting STS stuff, and it looks like he may be the only STS dealer in the US if the other two place can't get anything in stock.
and projectzen has the best prices on the 21B |
RE: Budget Engine
To bad he does not carry all the engines like the new one and the MKII as well as his price on parts are HIGH. Lets see if when he sells what stock he has if he has problems in getting parts and engines.

RE: Budget Engine
It seems like even most factory .21 engines a actually pretty decent now. You might consider picking up a new one off ebay. A quick search showed that they are consistantly available under $100. But then again, you might as well also start looking at engines like the OS and such.

RE: Budget Engine
Wonder when the last time he placed an order from the manufacture? Mark all so deals direct with the manufacture but says they are getting real hard to deal with or that is what he says. I guess only time will tell. Right now I have 2 new STS engines so I should be good for this race season. I all so have a used STS, OS V Spec and a OS RG. :D

RE: Budget Engine
well, if this is the end of STS, I'll be going to Go tech, or Picco/jammin/draked enignes but that mean shellen out $200 - $240 which is a a big blow to the pocket book of a 14 year old like me:(
the only other good budget engine besides STS is the this http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/6579 thunder tiger 21 |
RE: Budget Engine
right jb, i was gonna mention the ttr 21bx pro, or something, it looks like a really good engine for the price and has like 8 ports too. parts should be easy to find (at $115 who needs parts, just buy a new one!) and i've heard they are monsters too, hmmm...

RE: Budget Engine
blaze, whats the JBmod in your sig mean
|
RE: Budget Engine
Heres what the guy at projectzen said
I still have engines and plenty of spare parts. I will not be carrying the newer engines as the factory is pricing them to high for me to make any money. |

RE: Budget Engine
Well the question would be if he has them in stock which would be a better motor to start with the STS or the TTR???
|
RE: Budget Engine
You still can buy an OS small block like the OS 18 CV-RX for around $100. OS makes a VG 21 but I would not buy it because of the ABL sleeve for around $150. So the next thing OS makes with an ABC sleeve in a 21 is the V Spec and it is around $300. Now OS use to make a RG 21 with an ABC sleeve, which was around $120, but the VG replaced it. Poor move on OS part in my opinion.
JB if Mark quits dealing with STS I guess I will go back talking to some others I have talked to about engine sponsorships. [X(] |

RE: Budget Engine
new to nitro engines and well not sure bout tuning skills yet but my back ground is automotive so I can take any engine apart with out a problem
|
RE: Budget Engine
To me taking a nitro engine apart and putting it back together is nothing. I am a 35 plus year motorcycle mechanic and machinist. Now tuning little more difficult if not use to it.
I have never owned the TTR but hope to get one, one day. A STS I think would be faster but is more meticulous to tune and break in. |
RE: Budget Engine
how hard would the STS be to tune? Would you not recommend the sts to be beginner?
|
RE: Budget Engine
No I would not recommend a STS for a beginner.
|
RE: Budget Engine
ok thank you and sorry for asking so many questions just dont want to mess up on the first shot lol

RE: Budget Engine
when I got my STS I was only in to nitros for 1 1/2 years, and that was 2nd engine I have ever broke-in and that was my first race 21, the only other engine I broke-in was a force 26 which has a bad leak, so tuning that was a pain, I just let it burn up because I didn't want to by a new carb, and I hated that engine, so I let it bit the dust and got the STS, best move I've ever made since I started with RC's.
I took my first ever engine apart when I 10 maybe just turned 11 when I took my 2.5 apart, and before then, I never did anything with cars or engines. the 21B was not bad to break-in, its pretty easy, the break-in method inthe manual is what I used and it was basicly a heat cycle, but now I'll be using the draked method or one close to it. |
RE: Budget Engine
46u, if you stop using STS engines, then who would you go with?
maybe I should start selling STS engines:D I was about to, but could get the cash at the time. Heres what the guy at projectzen said about the new STS engines. I refuse to buy their new engines until they prove to me they’re worth the money. |

NO WAY WILL I USE THAT METHOD ON ANY OF MY ENGINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!![sm=thumbs_down.gif] |
