Basic suspension setup for good turning Hyper 7 PBS?

Hey guys. I am about to take out my Hyper 7 PBS. However, i have always struggled finding a suspension setup that works well so I can turn at high and medium speeds.

Anything above a snails pace - it turns like a boat, especially with the gas applied.

My diffs have 3k 7k 5k. rear, middle, front. The PBS aren't too tight or lose.

I don't remember what I filled my shocks up with. - Suggestions?

I will be primarily driving on flat short grass (bashing) and smooth pavement, no jumping.

However - I will be going to a local track that has a decently big dirt track that has many jumps and bumps.

My front servo is a Hitech 645mg, I has have a feeling that there is something wrong with that servo so I purchased anther 645mg from Nitrohouse yesterday. (Is that servo to weak?)

How should I adjust my front and rear shocks. Including the shock spacers and the actual placement of them.

Oh btw: I am getting new tires also, some Proline Knuckles - but I don't think my tires are the problem.

Thanks for the help. :)

Give this set up a try.....

Blue Springs
Shocks - 40 front / 30 rear
Diffs - 5000 front / 7000 middle / 3000 rear
1 degree front toe out
1 degree rear toe in

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys. My diff oils are 5000 front / 7000 middle / 3000 rear.

Ill swap out the shock oil for 40 front / 30 rear (if no one objects.)

Ill buy some srping coils. Blue. (if no one objects.)

Thanks for the link to the setups on the Hyper 7, however those are the C-hub ones. Not PBS. Will there be much of a difference in the setups? I see some of them have weird diff setups. Like torsens in the front with 20k in the middle.

ahh yes i was wondering about the diff's lol. well they sound good to me. one thing ill say is setup is usually done by trying it out and adjusting what needs adjusted.

Good luck :D

You would have to run different set ups for all three. Here is a blank set up sheet. As you get the different set ups for the differnt surfaces you can record them and use them in the future.

Take a Dremel to the steering knuckles to give it more throw in the steering. Make sure the front tierods are in the wider holes on the ackerman plate, set the ride height 1-2 mm higher in the back, that should get you turning a good bit sharper.

I am not sure what you mean about drilling out the knuckles...
I think my problem is with the suspension. Where to put the top shocks (holes), where to put the bottom, toe in, toe out, camber, shock oil, etc. Not necessarily how far the arms can turn.

Where can I buy cheap shocks for my buggy? Can't find it on nitrohouse. Are all 1/8th buggy shocks the same?

Also. The H7 Pro and The H7PBS setup sheets are really different, I cant transpose one to the other....

Does anyone have a list of H7 PBS setup sheets like the ones found above?

yes and no, with more steering throw you will turn noticeably more and even too much. you'll have to turn down your dual rates at times. i had a lot of people tell me to get rid of the pbs in my hyper 7 till they saw it after i modded it then they said they never saw pbs turn that much. the first step to improving turning is tires, make sure you have the right tires to do the job. hole shots turn better than bowties.

if you do decide to mod the knuckles its not hard to do. the hole where the ball goes in will be widened to the front and back, ****not up or down****, so the wheels can physically turn 5-10 degrees more at full servo throw. another thing that helps that is to drill another hole in the knuckle arm about 4mm closer to the ball, then cut off the excess in a straight line parallel to the lower arm at full throw. it sounds complicated typing it out but it is very simple. i used a dremel and carbide drywall bit to do the job. i now have the hyper 7 pbs front end in my cen matrix and it turns inside c-hub cars.

The 645MG servo is great! I have it and it is fast as hell, not to mention it lasts forever and is SO powerful!
Granted, it isn't as good as the servos that are in the 80-100+$ price range, but come on, it's a 30$ servo. When it breaks, just buy a new one(unless the gears stripped)
And really, it's strong enough AS LONG AS you provide it with fresh batteries every run and 6.0V(no cheap mans 4.8V aa rechargable battery solution for you, lol)
