I've been watching from the start.

Have you given thought to a pressure cowel?
It is an old F1 racer trick to get the air right where it is needed most without a lot of funky ducting.

Hey Vic I am not sure what you are talking about. Could you explain in detail a bit? I always love learning new tricks and open to any suggestions.

Basically the cowel fits snugly around the head and upper cylinder with a vent in from the front. This forces incoming air to cool the area that needs it the most. It also cuts down on how much exit vent you need making everything a little more streamlined and efficient.
I don't have a good picture of it but if you look at some of the older F1 pylon planes many of them used it.

Cool! Do your skis have runners of any kind? and will they be able to pivot on an axle ?

No they dont but its a good idea. If I had a larger budget I could do a bunch of cool stuff but I am pretty much just using spare parts from the shop. I think I have about $40 in it so far.

Nice! That this is big! What size engine do you have in it?

Hey John its been awhile. You been out playing in the snow?

From the front of the cowl to the back of the rudder it is 38" . It sits up pretty high though. It has a Super Tigre 45 in it. I got the engine mounted and the front skis attached so far. My idea for beefing up the landing gear failed . Time for plan B. Other than that I need to mount the servos and hook up the pushrods and it will be close to being done hopefully.

Nice!

We have plenty of snow here, but its powder so the skis don't do as well. I am looking at taking off the skis and mounting it on a kids snow sled.... The small sled is lighter then the skis and framework, so it might be an improvement as turning in powder is not happening, I figure I will cut the back (stern) off the sled to improve dynamics.  Also resurrecting the Zombie is at hand.... hitting a trailer at 30+ mph tends to break things......

Thats a bummer John. 30 mph can do some damage. The sled idea sounds cool so let us know how it works out.

I got some work done on mine. Engine has been installed and got most of the servos and pushrods set up. I have a little binding on the rear ski I need to figure out. I should have it ready by next weekend as long as the wifes honey-do list isnt too big for this weekend. Wifes dont understand priorities [] .

Been working my butt of on this thing. I didnt design enough space for all the radio gear so its been a pain. We got 4 inches of snow the other day buts its all almost melted so I decided to get a few pics in the snow. Have some minor things to finish up but shouldnt take too long.

Rock On!

That looks great! That puts my Zombie to shame..... I guess it should be called Franken-Zombie  But, now that I took the skis off (via post impact) and mounted it on a kids sled, it is as maneuverable and stable as ever. I even left off some of the over sized redder-age (again post impact)..... So yours is most certainly the Beauty... and this is the beast!

Thats cool John. Its all about having fun. Maybe between the 2 of us we can get something that works great. Did the sled allow for more speed?

Vic I forgot you been thru here for work and know how many soybean fields we have. I think the plowed fields would rip this thing apart so I am going to go to my brothers and he has a big pasture behind his house. It should be big enough to try it out. I been dreaming of trying it at the Scotts Lawn park but I doubt I could get permission to go there. The wife said we have snow coming so hopefully I can get the rest of the stuff finished on it forthis weekend.

Yes it is twice as fast!

We have plenty of snow but its very wet, as of yesterday.... today it looks better. I am in Northern Michigan North of Petoskey so frozen lakes are no problem....

Got a tiny bit of snow today but winds blew it all away. A frozen lake would be awesome but the temps wont stay low enough for them to be safe here.

Well, back to fixing it Yet Again!!!!  It took flight, 360 and that was that...... Nothing works like Zip-Kicker!! So I guess I need to work on fixing the aerodynamics.... Or just slow it down.....

Well I packed it up and took it to the field to try out. Was trying to get the engine started and my servos went haywire. Going to change the receiver out and maybe try again tomorrow.

Ok got the receiver working good. I decided to get the engine running here at the house ( I live in the city) . Neighbors are probably mad but I got some racing to do, hope they get over it. Good thing I did because my glow driver was dead after charging it a couple days ago. Ends up the battery just wasnt getting a good connection. Engine running and tuned up sorta, never tuned an engine for 20 degree days. Topping charge up and heading out this afternoon. If the wife goes out with me again she will have the video cam running so I will post later on. Wish me luck.

As expected everything didnt work out perfect. It seems like it will be stable enough but its lacking power. The front skis could probably be a bit bigger also. I am thinking about forming some out of foam and fiberglassing them. Right now the are 3 1/2 x 14 so I will probably make some 6x16 to hold some of the weight. They seem to sink and then try to plow thru the snow.

Heres a short video Vic. Its not as exciting as I hoped.
