Tempest airboat
Restoring an old Tempest, someone drilled a 1/4" hole in the transom and there is a very small crack in the tramsom well above the waterline. what would be the best repair and if epoxy is required can it be colored?

RE: Tempest airboat
I like to back the hole with thin plywood and fill it in with epoxy or fiberglass resin.I don't know if epoxy can be colored without affecting the strength.

I doubt you can get behind the crack with a wooden backup, the hull is pretty well sealed up. Do not permanently seal the hole the previous owner drilled, you will need it to drain out any accumulated water after a run. Put a piece of colored vinyl electrical tape across it when you run so that you can use it as a drain. In a hull this old you will have small cracks which will let water in. I use colored vinyl tape on many of my boats as hatch tape, its easy to find at home project stores like Lowes and Home Depot.

RE: Tempest airboat
I have a tempest that has not been drilled or cracked. If you want I can take some pics to show you where the factory drain is but mine is on the back right upper corner. I have found that for the cracks, I use epoxy with a touch of food coloring. Just a touch cause the surrounding color will be seen through the epoxy a bit and a lot of color is not needed.
