No need to get on my case for my choices. I do what works. If there is a clear tape that will seal properly, I'd give it a go. My boats aren't painted, so opaque tapes are out.

one way to get a water tight lid is to put a bead of silicon around the edge let that go off then screw or clip the lid down onto that 100% seal
on saying that i have used draught excluder for around windows as a seal
