The challenge of course is keeping the foils at the correct aoa and the boat on the water. The full-scale boat uses "feelers" at the bows to adjust the foils independently, a model could probably use a gyro. Over a decade ago a club member experimented with similar hydrofoils and found that at speeds much over 20 mph the boat woul rise too far out of the water. Using full width vee-shaped foils with a tapered blade width he could keep the boat in the water but he finally gave up as too much trouble.

May be doable now, but a lot of work. The sail boaters have tried to model the modern hydrofoil America's Cup boats with limited success on slower boats.

I have a 110mm dia brushless outrunner good for 10hp continuous if a much smaller craft
was made for one person a single engine is really all you need. I have thought about a
outrigger with the prop up front similar to high speed tether boats of that configuration.
Duration is the trick perhaps some of the new tech deep cycle 24v batteries would give
you a nice afternoon on the water. 48v x 150A / 9.7hp would make for a nice 20 mph
cruise. Low pitch prop is the key for duration as you need a nice 30in prop for thrust.
30x4 prop / 9.84hp
127.4 lbs thrust at full throttle / 28.4 mph

Model WIG craft are simply too hard to keep from flying without contact with the water to supply altitude control. They just want to climb, and if you try to bring them down, well, crash city.

I really don't mean to rain on your parade with these cool designs, but some full scale boats just don't lend themselves to successful models.

it might be raining outside but you are not raining on any ones parade
i was thinking perhaps you could take a leaf out of the rc helicopters book and use something like alien command
which is used to control height in a hover and set it for 6" above ground

Air is more compressed up against an opposing surface, faster you go the more it tries to
lift the craft keeping it at a given height is possible with front and rear horizontal stabs and
elevators or you can use stunt flaps to apply more down force the faster you go or.. you
can retract the wings to reduce lift or you can sweep them back or you can have articulating
blow out chambers in the wing panels to adjust lift. All this at your ability to operate per conditions
of course. Down wind vs up wind vs side winds will keep you on your toes. Perhaps gyro's with an altimeter able to be linked to the gyro's to maintain a given parameter leaving only the throttle to null.
The larger the craft the more easy to sit it in ground effect at a given altitude

Yes a good 2lb + craft should sit well and be less effected by wind.

Cool

Old idea. It's not as easy as it looks.
