Default Cut down props???

I have heard that some airboat guys cut down high pitch props to use. Why is this?? IS it better??

the less diamiter, will allow the prop to spin faster to a point.. with a higher pitch you dont loose ALOT of thrust, but you make it up in the rpm that you will gain becuase of the smaller diameter.
