Default WHAT DID YOU SPEND?

Tell us what you spent on your first boat?

Before I tell how much I spent. Take this into consideration, The last r/c I had was a tyco turbo hopper (buggy) 15+ years ago.
I spent a total around $600, this includes transmitter, engine, fuel pump, glow stater, building tools ......etc... I think I spent alot but I have had alot of fun.

To tell you the truth ... I didn;t spend anything on it ... my mom did when I was around 9 or so .
It was one of those crappy little electric jobby do's and cost about $20.00 or so at a garage sale . ( ran like crap and about maybe 1 MPH )

Now , the ones I make now , run about maybe $35.00 to $50.00 RTR

Actually ... I DO have a BUNCH of old air gear that I use .... ( and I DO mean a BUNCH ! ) ( nothing I would trust using for anything else ... OLD as dirt I guess you would say - LOL )
And the way I figure is that since I don't run these like I do my water propped boats , they don;t need top shelf radio gear and I even tune the Tx down to 500 mw . That way , IF there is any guy flying an airplane , it won;t mess with him .
( although NO - ONE around here runs anything []except the two others that I got interested in airboats and water propped boats ... )

$0 I was about 13. I used the radio from my Futaba gas car. I used a .049 cox off of one of those cable controlled planes that my father bought us. And my grandfather built the boat out of 1/4" plywood it was about 16"long and about 8" wide (weighed a ton for its size).

I think Terbo's first would out run mine! It barely moved!

I think I ran 2 tanks in it before I sank it....destroyed the receiver and servos!

Would do anything to have it sitting on my shelf today!

My story is about the same as Terbo's.
My mother supported my habit as long as it 'kept me off the streets' she always said.

Lots of my old gear is gone. I'd rather spend 45-50 $$ on a cheap AM radio now than risk using what I had from that time, (Bantams and the NEW Kraft linears) , know what I mean Terbo ?

Actually........the gear I started out with was as old as I was young, at the time [X(]

As of right now I've got about $100 and change into my airboat project including the radio. My dad gave me an ARF kit one Christmas...a few years ago (ok so long ago I don't remember when ) I never got it completely together till about 2 years ago then I never learned to fly it. Had my first kid about the same time I got it together and once he got mobile the plane was history. So I decided to build an airboat with what I could salvage from the plane. My only problem is time...it's been a year since I started and I can't seem to get time to finish it.

Hi guys!

I try to spend as little as possible, I guess I'm cheap!!!

my 2 engines come from my trying airplane flying a few years back. As for materials, I use balsa from an airplane kit I never built , I buy cheap luan, and look for blue foam scraps at construction sites...I did buy a new radio, 2 ch am futaba, wich looks great and sure is going to work better than the old 2 ch from the glider a few years back!!!

Now that my small boat is ready, I just wait for good weather...

See ya!

Then you should feel right at home here

Being cheap is almost a status symbol here

We like to think of it as being innovative....[8D]

You're right Pro!!!

Plus, if you recover materials that would end up in the trash and give them a new life, you are doing your part for the environment! I'm not a tree hugger, but I hate to see something go to waste if it might still be useful for something

When I grew up, my dad had a small shop in the basement. Whenever he cut some part out of wood, the scraps would go in a big scrap bin, wich has been so usefull so many times!!! He also kept every screw, nut, bolt, nail that wasn't damaged that saved from something that he was going to throw away. He 's still doing it now in his new shop!!!

The way I see it, it's not how much I've spent on a project, but how much I saved!!!

Ya know ... its only the actual "cost" of the item that is such a big deal , but with the price of gasoline now-a-days .... shoot , it'll cost ya $3.00 just to run downtown to get that one or two nuts , bolts , screws .. or whatever ... so ............. -------- cheap ????
I prefer

CONSERVATIVE

You read that wrong, he's not calling all of us old, but "ole" ! which means...

'we're a bunch of cheap bullfighters".

And he signed it SOB, which stands for 'Silly Old Bob'

Let's all get our glasses on and read it rite

We don't want to get the OLD man mad
( yea, I know, I should talk)
