Default .40 or .60 nitro engine???

guys, need ur opinion on selecting nitro engine size .40-.60. the purpose is to use in airboat but i don't have any idea regarding airplane engine. lookin' for a cheaper probably below $100 but reliable engine, easy to tune, that enough to move a 31 inches hull weighing 5-6 lb...i saw alot engine in tower but can't decide which is which...any input is highly appreciated...thanks..

Although not an authoritative answer, here's my take. I have a plane that weighs about 6 lbs on floats. The floats are 34 inches long. Its powered by a Thunder Tiger Pro 46 with a 11x5 prop. The prop strikes the water, but will launch the plane. I've also used a 10x7 prop with great success off the water. Now assuming you're not trying to fly, either of these combinations would probably overpower your boat. I definitely would stay away from the 60 size. You might even consder going smaller with a 28 or 35 size. Less weight to push around.

yes, but airboats have a lot more drag than airplanes do, because your out of the th water most of the time, it would seem like a .46 will push it easily, but airboats are always in the water.

why have you moved to another thread to repeat your questions?,my airboat is a flat bottomed hull it has a 46 la engine 11 "prop, more than enough power for that boat arround the same weight.yours is a tunnel design which should be faster id say stick to a 46 any will do but the ones with ball bearings are best.more expensive unless as i said you get the sc ones or similar priced ones like thunder tiger etc.os engines are very expensive and no better than sc in my book.my os 46 la has no barings but its a cheap reliable engine!!.the la ebgines are for trainers so they need to be reliable but they arent powerfull although should be ok for your boat for a bit of fun.i dont think a 61 is too big though it will certainly shift ,if it floats .check out this site see what everyone is running on theire tunnels.

hi sc is super custom ,made by a guy who used to build os engines and he uses the os moulds for these . i wouldnt pay for an os bb engine they are way too over priced in my opinion.im not sure where you would get the sc engines over there to be honest, they are very reasonable price wise and very strong engines too.id say get a 46 engine ,the thunder tiger engines are ok if thats what you can get easier.get an 11" prop for it or even a smaller 3 blade prop which as a freind says will get your engine lower and still give great power.ask where you buy the engine which one to get for best performance.good luck and happy xmas!!.

buy it if you get a good deal they are good engines.a tip for you if your boat flips ,disconect fuel lines and turn the prop over with electric starter and open carb let all the water come out of carb dont stand in way or youll get wet!!,reconect fuel lines and start her up .this burns any water and stops it rusting, run a full tank through it after a dunking and she will be good as new.a spray of wd40 after doesnt hurt either, then you can add some after run oil in the carb too.

good idea martno1fan, but i think you forgot one thing. remove your glow plug before spinning the motor or you could bend or break the connecting rod. water does not compress like air/fuel mixture.
