fast lil swamp buggy
Just wanted to share my upgraded copy of a dumas lil swamp buggy(1960/kv motor and 7x5 prop). Could probably get it to go faster but I have to figure out how to keep it from getting airborne. Sorry for the video quality, camera wasnt zoomed all the way.

RE: fast lil swamp buggy
Thanks for the comments guys. Some time later this year I hope to build the bigger 28" swamp buggy to be e-powered too. I've already got the motor but need to save up for the batteries and a higher amp esc and get a couple other projects out of the way. Once the wind dies down here in south florida im going to attempt faster and longer runs. Will have video.
mjderstine, the battery is a Dualsky 1800mah 3 cell lipo.

RE: fast lil swamp buggy
cool man, ive been trying to high mah batteries for mine, my motors are such low rpm/V that i need 10 cell packs for any kinda speed. i have been contemplating getting a hig k/v motor so i can use a smaller battery. ive got a jeti 77 opto esc, so no problems there, just need the right motor for the application

mjderstine, the motor on that boat I got from hobby-lobby for about $40 and right now they have it on sale for $19. With a 7x5 prop it pulls just a little more then recommended but have had no problems. Here's a link to the motor

You can also try grayson hobby. They have nice low priced high kv motors.

RE: fast lil swamp buggy
SFGuy,
I just ordered (almost) everything last night. This $31.00 airboat turned into a couple hundered reallyquick. LOL.I do have a couple ofquestions for you.
I noticed that you have your motor facing forward. I was thinking the same thing.Do you think this works out better? I didnotice that thereis a much wider range of puller props rather than pusher types
What kind of servo would you recommend? Is just aplain old standard servo fine? Would a high torque mini servo be better (as in for weight savings)?
What size LiPo were you able to get in there?
Finally, do you have and still pictures of your completed build, especially of the radio compartment?

RE: fast lil swamp buggy
Hey Matts. Whatever way the motor is mounted wont make a difference. I tried it in pusher and puller and its all the same power wise. The motor will have better cooling in puller configuration though. I have hs-81 servos in both boats and they work well. A mini servo is fine. I normally use a 1250mah 3 cell lipo but for longer runs use a 1800mah lipo. I do have pictures and I will upload them later.

RE: fast lil swamp buggy
Awesome.... Thanks for the help. I am familiar with the HS-81. I used to have one in an Associated RC18T. Great little servo and probably stronger than a 'standard' full sized. I will mount the motor facing in puller fashion. Like I said above, it seems like there is a much wider variety of puller props. The added cooling is a plus too. Everything should be here by next Monday. I'm gonna take my sweet time building though because we won't have snow on the ground for about 2 months. I do have a nice local pond and alake to go try it out on, if it gets done before that. Looking forward to your pics.

Here's some pics. The radio gear has been removed as i'm using it on another project right now. You can kinda see were things went though. Servo in the middle, battery was placed in back where 2 pieces of velcro are, and receiver was mounted on strip of velcro infront(originally was intended for battery but was moved due to cg problems). The motor is just sitting on the mound for now thats why the wires are the way they are.

RE: fast lil swamp buggy
Awesome... Thanks
Well.... Bad news. I got my kit today and I looks like the thing got kicked all over Tower Hobbies Warehouse. Then left to sit in a puddle.I think every board in the kit is warped. It also looks like some of it was cut out with a dull chainsaw. They will be getting a call from me in the A.M. I might just get a full refund and buy at my LHS. That way I can open it up and inspect it.

RE: fast lil swamp buggy
Agreed. I am new to the whole boat thing and got the Lil Swamp Buggy. Your kit was probably cut off the tree the same time mine was with the same dull chainsaw. I am glad I saved templates for my next straight build....
