they added the foam they use to the sides and had sheet of fiberglass done and molded it to fit the sides then glassed it to the hull

To get the skip out try putting one piece of 1/4" square stock with one end sanded to an angle at the outside edge rear on each side on the bottom. That may work or you may have to modify the bottom to get the "v" out of it and remove the strakes(all three) that the factory put on the hull. My hull has had all that done to it and it slides like a champ. It still has a slight hop(porpoise) to it but that is a balance point issue. Dennis

The boat was widened with high density foam coreing, its what they use on the Nor-Tech boats. The sides, bottom, and top were ground down and then the foam was cut to follow the contour of the boat. After the foam was cut and fitted right, a layer of fiberglass was layed over it, there was only one layer of fiberglass on it, im not sure the thickness of the fiberglass though. The foam with a layer of fiberglass made it very light yet still strong, its actually probably stronger then the rest of the boat now. After the fiberglass was dry just use a small grinder and smooth the sharpness. I then put some bondo to fill the low spots then I used a sprayable filler called slicksand to spray over all the bodywork. Its basically gelcoat but gray and wont keep moisture out like gelcoat does, which is why it must be primered/sealed and then painted.
If you have any questions just post them and ill answer them. I hope this explanation helps some, its easier to explain in person lol

this is from my son Troy

Default RE: ALLIGATOR TOURS BOAT

I just widened my Alligator Tours Boat by 4 inches, using 1/8" balsa strips and closed cell foam then covered it all with fiberglass. I also added a new, bigger, waterproof box for all the electronics (ESC, Lipo, video TX, battery and RC receiver).

This is a brushless conversion with a Traxxas reversible ESC, 4500mA Lipo and 1.2GHz FPV transmitter.

I'm using a Gopro HD for underwater and 'over/under' (half the lens submerged) filming -hence the tilt boom in the front- and an Ativa HD camera for above surface filming

i'll post a detailed how-to next week, (right now I'm headed for lake Okeechobee for a test run!)

I used a 3/16" x 2" strip of balsa for the deck plank in case I want to bolt something to it later on, also made it easier to keep flat.

I also found out that it's easier to keep the side angle by using 1/4' foam strips, glued together individually (the foam was left over packing material from a flatscreen TV) and I added two layers of (stiffer) cellfoam from the local hobbyshop which act as spars for the bottom . I could have used styrofoam covered with fiberglass instead, but I liked the flatness and edge stability of the Balsa strips...
