Running backwards

Has anyone pitched a boat while the motor was running backwards? The other day I fired up my big cat
Unbeknown to me it had started backwards, common with a high compression motor.
Anyway after launching it immediatly threw water over the transom, and came back at me .
By the time I grabbed the tx and shut it down, it jammed the rudder into the bank.
I was lucky it didn't harm the prop. Can't say the same for the rudder though.
By the time you comprehend and react, a lot can transpire It's hard totell if a boat motor has
started backwards, not like an airplane..
Having this much fun must be illegal

My Feedback: (3)
cannot say I have had a motor run backwards - Not sure the gassers would with the coil running opposite and timing so far off.
But one thing I have caught twice now is boats having props installed that are counter rotating in the wrong direction (putting the wrong prop on the wrong side) which would have seen my buddies boat headed for shore (backwards) in a hurry I imagine.

it happened alot in nitro motors and i think i saw some in gas motor in the race..
btw, just a tip to check it, before launching the boat make it a habit to feel or check that there is wind rushing behind the prop otherwise the motor starts in reverse..

Yup ..... It does happen when running nitro ... Some guys run 24 volts (2-12 volt batteries) and if wired backwards it will start .... Saw it happen during a race and the guy launching the boat was just dumbfounded .. I couldnt laugh cause it also has happend to me ... Now after the season is over I draw a diagram for next season so it doesnt happen again ..

LOL back in the c/l days had many cox .049s fire up in reverse. Of course being a kid I just had to see if a plane would fly backwards.

Am I one of the only ones it hasn't happened to? Then again, until recently, I have been using a motorcycle battery directly connected to the starter so it was hard to screw it up
