New RC'er And To The Forum
Stumbled across this forum and found it to be very addictive. I have made model boats from scratch and used to build Ship-N-Bottles. I thought how hard could it be. Whew. I downloaded the free Hydromite plans and started. After 2 days of building I decided that a CNC machine was the way to go for any future builds. I am currently working on my own design and I am building the Controller myself (3 axis (unipolar)). Here are a few pics of my Scratch Build. Tell me what you think.

Hey George!
I took another look at your Hydromite pictures and they'r Great!
This little boat will fly on the water.
Are you using only balsa?
What kind of motor will you power it with?
regards,
Norbert

Norbique,
I had a little Ford Explorer RC truck that I took the motor and electronics out of that I hope to use in this Hydromite. The motor is pretty small, but since the boat isn't that big and it's my first boat build, I'm not looking for any real big Speed Breaker. As I have posted in your thread I have already started another boat with your post as an example, and started the plans for another. I guess I've been officially bitten....LOL
Thanks for all of your input,
George

Jeesh Norbique,
I wish you hadn't asked. I am currently working on four different Boats at the moment.
The Hydromite (16 inches), A Deep V (taken from the inspiration of your boat, 21 inches), A sorta flat stepped hull Racer (36 inches), and a second Hydromite (39 inches). After I got so close with the first one I went on a building rampage. I still need to do a lot of research on engines and electronics. I'm not looking forward to the prices they are asking for either (I'm Cheap, and would rather build from scratch, then pay someone else....LOL). I will post some pictures of the other boats as soon as I can. Thanks for asking.

RE: Stepped Flat Hull Racer
Hey George,
Your Stepped Flat Hull Racer looks interesting! Are you a boat designer? What program are you using to draw your boats?
I re-designed the plan of the Miami. It was a hand drawn plan done by a friend of mine. It had some minor errors around the ribs that I could easily correct once it was in Digital form. Also it is very easy to scale the vector drawing, but I guess I don't have to tell you these things.
Very nice boat design on your latest pic.
Keep us posted!
Regards,
Norbert

One Of My Wooden Models (Non-RC)
Norbert,
I use a little gem of a program called DeltaCad. It is much easier to understand and use then AutoCad or 3dsMax. I do'nt consider myself a boat designer even though all of my scartch buit models and Ships-n-Bottles were designed and made from real boats. It's funny, with 21+ years in the Army, I have this fetish for boats. Should've joined the Navy I guess....LOL. I look forward to seeing the changes you made to the Miami.
Here's a pic of 3 of my scratch builds:
Thanks For the Support

New Boat Build - Rigger
I saw on another forums a guy building one of these (rigger) and decided what the heck.
This was all accomplished in one weekend.
I built the Hull skin with 1/16" balsa then re-enforced it with a layer of 1/8" balsa. All formers were made of 1/8" balsa.

3 Different Boat Builds
Here is a picture of three of the boats I'm working on together,
If you keep enough things going, You'll always have an excuse of why nothing is finished.

RE: New RC'er And To The Forum
Norbique,
You mean these things are supposed to float!!!!......LOL
Still researching Motors and Electronics. I hope to have all three of these (Plus 2 more I'm working on) ready for motors and electronics all at the same time. I am also researching hardware (Fins, Rudders, etc). The forums have been a great source of inspiration and knowledge. BTW, how does the rigger look wierd or funny? I am obviously a newbie and any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
George

RE: New RC'er And To The Forum
Hi George?
I wrote weird when I saw the first picture in Post No. 17
(http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/thum...85/Fd93393.jpg)
From the side your rigger has a fish like shape. Another thing is the HUGE sponsons. These were what I found weird, interesting nice. Never saw a rigger with the shape like that.
I have no doubt it will float, but I am really curious about is HOW will it float?
I want videos! Just kidding...
Regards,
Norbert

RE: New RC'er And To The Forum
I didn't realize that I had taken the photo that had the reference mark for one of the cross members. Looking at it again, With the wife looking over my shoulder, She said it looked like "Under Tow" (the Shark) from the Little Mermaid II. That's when it hit me, I HAVE A NAME!!!. So from here out (To include the graphics for it) I will refer to it as:
Under Tow.
HEHE, some time I just amuse myself.
George
BTW: As you had refered to how it might sit in the water......It may cause some under-tow.
