Looking to get a G.P.S for my boats so I can fine tune them, any body got a hot ticket on what ones are good, and compact?

Garmin makes some small good ones, you can find some remanufacturered ones on eBay. Try to run WOT as far as you can, the further the better reading you will get.

I've got one on my cell phone but I don't know if I'd want to toss it in my boat There's a free app called Ulysse Speedometer that gives out more info than you really need. Mine shows altitude, direction tripmeter and how far you traveled today not to mention MPH. I worry about reliabilty though.

Ron .. a protective floatation bag (Aqua-pack/Aqua-mate) is all you need to save your phone at a dunk.

And don't worry about the reliabilty of the readings ... even as it could be not the real speed ... it's good enough to compare set-up's.

A rev.counter/tacho is also usefull.
