Spektrum DX7 controller
#1
Dear All,
I am trying to set up this SPEKTRUM DX7 controller and have read it is no good with boats?
Any ideas if it will work ok and what reciever would be best?
I know the controllers are old but they were supposed to be good.
Thanks to anybody who can help with this

2.4GHz for boats is kind of a pain because the frequency waves can reflect off the water causing all sorts of issues. If your transmitter will bind to a Spektrum marine receiver with along antenna, then you shouldn’t have much trouble. The main caveat I see with using an aircraft transmitter for anything surface or marine is due to the throttle stick not being spring loaded to return to neutral/idle. If the stick gets bumped when you don’t want it to, you could find yourself in a rough predicament. It’s not uncommon to use stick radios for boats or cars, but it takes a little extra care and finesse. I have a JR XP9303 myself, but I won’t use the 2.4 due to the receivers having short antennas. I have a handful of FM receivers that have super long antennas, which is really important for boats. FM doesn’t have a failsafe option though, IIRC.

I would have to agree with post above. I tried to use a Futaba 9CAP with a boat and it was very difficult to use. Obviously, there are those that can use them, I'm just not one of them. I would go with a pistol grip "wheel" radio for a boat. I personally prefer Futaba but, if you want to stick with Spectrum, you might consider this:
