I need to suggest a boat to my mother-in-law to buy for my brother-in-law for X-mas. I'm not sure what is the best choice. The choices are.
Electric Power (EP), CEN Aqua Jet 550 RTR version (0255), or the Hobbico Hammer EP.
Nitro Power (GP), CEN Aqua Jet .16 RTR (2054), or the Hobbico Nitro Hammer.
Which is the best boat out of the box for each of the GP and EP versions? By best I mean less problems, durability, speed, tuning, radio, etc. The recipient has shown some ability to tune nitro engines and not much intrest in wrench time or spending money to hop things up. The boat will be used at a lake with real boat wakes, and at ponds for goofing around, no organized racing. The price isnt a deciding factor. Once I add the charger and batteries the costs are very close because the recipient already has a nitro car and support gear, but no electric gear.
Side note: I own a Hammer EP that is pretty much box stock and I use 7 cell 1800mah batteries for it. I like it but have never compared the CEN EP and it side by side.
Thanks for your opinions.

Gesh, can I be your brother in-law for this Christmas?![Big Grin](https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I had a Traxaas Blast. It was fun. For the money (150$) it sure opened the door for other choices. Live & learn.

Aqua Jet, it has a few shortfalls like the exposed radio system and the stock prop isn't very good. On the plus side, it does have a surface drive so you can turn a larger prop. An Octura X637 works great on it. Some other run props from X437 to X440.
The motor vibrates a lot until it's broken in but is a good starting motor once it's broken in.
