Default Would this work

I am new to RC boats, or I should say I might be. I fly RC electric planes mostly but am interested in boats as I have lakes and ponds everywhere. Anyway here is what I had in mind to try, I have the plans to scratch build a hydro boat, one of those 3 -D flying boats, I want to build it up more solid than it's meant to be and make sure it's water tight, then my idea is to install 2 EDF 55 motors on it and using 1 servo to control a rudder, I am thiniking about powering it with either a 9.6 1100 ma nimh or a 3S 1300 lipo, I know the lipo would kill the motors fairly quick though. I guess I'm wanting to know if it would work and be able to get any real speed on the water or would it be a dog. Has it been tried.
Thanks for any thoughts on this and sorry if this seems ,,, well,,, a stupid idea

No, it's not a stupid idea. Maybe I'm saying that because I had thought about something along those lines
I understand about what you mean when you want to build something heavier as it doesn't look like they could take much of a hit.
You might want to bring this up over at the airboat forum or else I can move this one if you want me to.
