Suggestions for first boat
Ok.... here's the question:
Is there an r/c nitro boat that is FAST,(as tim the tool man taylor says"MORE POWER!!") and is designed for tight turns in both directions right and left?? If so, which one??????? if I understand properly, the u-18 miss vegas is designed for only tight right-hand turns.

Your best bet would be an outboard tunnel hull like the TS2. Tunnels generally don't need turn fins, so turning either way should be do-able.

Well, tight turns.. Doesn't that qualify for a "Fast nitro"??
Sorry, but when someone asks for fast, I think of racing.. Guess what they do in racing, round and round they go...
Good cornering ability is good..

With a Grimfin, it is said the Vegas can turn left at speed, but since I haven't tried it, at this point for me it's just hearsay. If you want the scoop on a tunnel and the Vegas, ask the man that knows, Jerry Dunlap. He's been designing, building and racing tunnels for the last 25+ years. He also was on the Vegas design team, so if there is anyone that can answer your question, it's Jerry

There is a video in the Miss Vegas thread that shows it making high-speed lefts with the GrimRacer turn fin. I know, there are a lot of pages to go through to find it.
If I can get Mike's or Russ' permission, I can post it on RCU Videos or they can do it..

Since the Miss Vegas is out of stock till "late december" I dont imagine it would be a wise choice for the time being.

First, location. If you are planning to go boating in a pond, get a small electric boat. Because you can stop the boat without killing the engine. And for begginers, it's good (because you can stop and go). If you plan to go boating in a large lake with typically large waves, get a bigger boat! But, you have to remember, it has to fit in a car or whatever you have. For me, i have a minivan so the biggest boat i can fit in it is a 55inch.

By the way, if getting a nitro, consider clutch. I know, i've got a learning little bro and he crashed my boat into a rock. The nose of the boat broke up a bit, despite my brother killing the engine 6 feet before collision. A 36" boat, surprisingly, has a LOT of momentum.

RE: Suggestions for first boat
I'm in New Hampshire, I have access to oceanside, I also have a nice sized lake to run in nearby to me.
I also have the Merrimack river...hehehehe I found a spot on the river where current is slow enough that it wouldnt be a concern for runnin the boat. the current is actually flowin towards the shore....I couldnt believe it at first, till I threw a stick out about 8 feet and it came right back to me.
Ron,
I see that the Miss Vegas has been set back again to early january.....that boat is out......I wont order something with such an unstable stock regardless of who designed it or what the problem is.

RE: Suggestions for first boat
Would this be a good starter boat suitable for running in a slow (5mph) river ?

Any suggestions then ? I may not like boats, so I don't want to spend a ton of money on one yet. What sucks about the one I showed you ? Only think im worried about is parts and wether is has a fully variable speed control with reverse. I want reverse just in case !

RE: Suggestions for first boat
Vectored thrust steering is normally an all or nothing deal. I got a good laugh out of the line "Imagine that, 15 to 20 mph and it's not even gas powered". I guess they didn't do any research before writing the copy for that add. IF they had, they would know that electrics are hitting equal to or higher speeds than gas or nitro. Something else I noticed is the guy driving never made a right turn. Does any one know why? I noticed they were almost proud of the fact the boat uses sub-C nicads. What's wrong with nimhs or li-po's? Oh yeah, that's right, the integrated receiver/esc can't handle any more power than the sub-C pack. And whats up with the 380 motors?

OK, so I probably wouldn't like it... Can you suggest something I might not get bored with ? Keep in mind, I have a wooden leg, so I don't want anything that doesn't have reverse. I don't want to have to go wadeing if it gets hung up on something. lol

OK, I see they get expensive... Between my nitro heli, my Revo, and 3 planes, I think I better save my dough for fuel. I didn't like little electric helicopters either, so an airboat with a Saito 56 may be what I need... just no reverse ! Guess i'll start lookin at airboat hulls.
