Default Small size (1/2A) nitro runner

Hey gents!

I was thinking about something: marrying a AP WASP 061 nitro engine with a micro mono kind of hull. The engine is cheap being an airplane engine, and i can't get this type of car engine size my ways...
Are there any reasons why i should do it or don't do it, and some simple designs i could use? Cooling isn't an issue, i have it figured out

Thank you!

There are R/C cars and trucks on the market now with engines in that size range that are carbed and tuned pipes made for. How they would work in a boat, I don't know yet as parts may be a little harder to find to hook up to them.
Go to the nitro forum as we have a few people working on outriggers in size that you want.

One of my first boats, a really long time ago, was a Dumas Sk Daddle Jr with a Cox .049 engine. It wasn't particularly fast, but I still have fond memories of running it around the lake. It's still listed on the Dumas site.

That Dumas looks pretty neat Too bad i'm on the wrong side of the ocean...
My problem with 1:16 engines is that the one i am able to buy costs around 100€, while that airplane AP costs 40... Plus the AP is quoted for 25.000rpm max!

I'll go take a peek next door then, thanks

In my younger days, I had built a Dumas Atlas Van Lines unlimited hydro with a Cox .049TD with a Dumas flywheel and cool clamp. I built it as "free running". It could build up enough speed to ride the prop and really scoot. The needle was very hard to set, as if you set it rich enough not to lean out at top speed, it would not want to get up on step very well. If you set the needle lean enough for low end power, it would get up on step but then lean out, run hot and then sag back into partial plane. If I set it up to run wide clockwise circles with the rudder, it would run well until it came up on its prop, then tear off in a mostly straight line. I had a ton of fun with it!

I have a good stash of 049 motors and collecting my cash to send off a good order to Dumas, this time including the SK DADDLE JR and the SKEE VEE 10.

As I was reading through this thread I started to wonder what would happen with an SK Daddle Jr combined with a brushless motor and the right size Lipo battery packs.

I imagine it would be a bullet. It is a shallow V type hull, so you might experience a little bit of chine walk with it. I wish I was more familiar with electric's as thier hardware such as the strut and rudders are about the right weight for an 049.
