success!!! I got the hex brass fitting off. I used some pliers, sidecutters and a hammer and got it off. Now the next step is securing the motor. I think I will leave that part up to dad. I really cant see an easy way to secure the motor.

Does anyone have an ideas given the picture ive put up?

Hey tripper is there any chance you can put up a close up pic of your mounting plate?

thanks

Brendon.

You will have to make a custom mount if you use that 380 can size motor.
The stock mount from that board is for a 540 size motor, but that will lead to a 5mm motor shaft
and a different prop shaft and coupling to fit it.

KITE: Kelly Just Won Trestles !!!! It was awesome...

Looking at the Huge International interest in Rc Surfing, and the global builders the hobby sport now has
I am contacting the ASP with the help of my Pro Surfer Contacts to hold exhibitions during the lulls that would showcase the Rc surfer.

We have France, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Hawaii, The US, and more.
As A Group we could actually pull this off.

I will help start it and will be working on this. contact me if interested.

Thoughts so far:

Australia - Wombarra / Andy Team

Brazil - Jeff Team & More

France Team - Brice & Blog Team

South Africa - YPC Team

Hawaii - Maui John Team

US Mainland - Surfcurls / Kite Team

Stalyoni

I can't supply a photo but what I did was used a piece of 8mm ali angle, drilled two bolt patterns, one for the motor and the other for the stock mount (counter sunk).  I then used countersunk screws for mounting the ali to the stock mount (1st step) and standard button heads to mount the motor second step. Then just secure the motor and mount to the stock holes in the board. It does pay to fill the holes in the board with some epoxy and redrill once cured, there's not much bite in the plastic, there is the issue of stripping the plastic with overuse as the motor has to be removed to grease the shaft each time.

thanks tripper but dad and I spent hours today and got the motor mounted. I wired up the ubec and esc.

All I need to do now is epoxy it all up and make the reverse rocker tail mod.

I have a hxt900 9gram servo cable tied in for the steering at the moment. Do you think this servo will be enough for steering?

Ill put up some pics of what we did after I epoxy it all up.

Its really taking shape now and thanks so much for all the help along the way guys.

This all seems a bit premature to me.

For sure they ALL wanted a piece of Nikki last week while they were setting up, I could feel it, I just handed out cards and smiled alot. Why wouldn't they, Nikki is beautiful, one of a kind, and best of all, she tears it up!...but she is not for sale.

ASP and Hurley would love to have a side show so unique...especially if its free....there is the rub...

With no horse in this race..the question that comes to mind is....??????WHY???????

Promote our sport?
= Crowded breaks
or signs that say No Rc Surfing Allowed....because some hotshot bought a Surfer and got stupid.

Fame?
Yea Right!

If ASP or Hurley wanted to sponsor Nikki and the rest of the Divas next year(that would give us time to get the Team ready)...that would be a different story...travel, lodging, and daily stipends would go a long way in making the effort worth while, one could put on quite a show...but they want FREE...don't they.

I can understand why this would be a good deal for Surfcurls, Womberra, or any other manufacturer of 'lets pump out a thousand and see how it goes' production models...but BEWARE, that is not what impressed them in the first place. They want a Surfer that has some size, shows off its power with speed and dominance over the whitewash, shreds up the wave faces with ease, jumps high, and seems near indestructible!

Maybe that will describe the new production models on the horizon...available any time soon?

In fact with the exception of Maui Rc Surfer there are not ANY for sale. How many Surfers can a guy make and still enjoy the process?

Which leads me back to my original point...this all seems a bit premature to me.

Kite,

Well said mate, here in Maui we are very protective NOT to promote the sport, as we do not want even a few irresponsible rc surfers who could ruin it for others.
We figure if someone wants to make and maintain his/her own rc surfer - then chances are they would be responsible and welcome.
Right now there are 5 of us that rc surf on Maui

I agree with what you said in your post BUT given the chance to rc surf Pipeline or Back Door without real surfers in the water - I would do it for free for ASP

The idea of having Rc Surfers as part of real Pro surf contests is Not New.
Ed & BB participated in some events 10 years ago.

Four Years ago, I was approached by Surfline, and I declined.
I don't think it's pre mature, I think it's long over due.

Every time an Rc Surfer Gets put in the water, It's promoting the sport,
Unless you are surfing in total seclusion.

It boils down to educating the user on the safety issues...

I strongly agree with 'best ensuring' the surfing of ********s responsibly.....it would be tragic if ones local beach spot was permanently closed to rcSurfing. These little guys could do some serious damage in the wrong hands.....

As for the ASP......I reckon that event is best left for the Pro's......as Kite questions......what would we hope to gain ?

I managed another fun session this afternoon- in between rain showers and sun shine moments - 'small' 1-2 ft face.....I need as much time in the water....practice makes perfect.
I'm so enjoying this board. Its seems to handle most all conditions well. Has run faultlessly so far...
I dumped the single fin after a few waves today......really just prefer the Bi-Fin 'all in all'.....to me it seems to do the job 'just' that much better.

Due To The responses Thus Far on The ASP, I will let them know There is not Sufficient Global support
at this time to pull it off . Heck it was just a thought.

The Association Addressing Safety, Seems to be stalled as swell.

My biggest fear is that someonebuys a going real rc surferthen takes out someone's eye or cuts em up with 2kg plus of plastic missile.... the powers that be will not like that and laws will be introduced ruining everything for everyone...

It happened during my fun with HPI nitro savage 4wd's.... my local council used to dump big mounds of dirt around the playing feilds for future topsoiling, which with shovels and home made ramps we realy had some fun... the kids practicing their footy loved it too but not the parents...OMG 5kg of noisy oil burning machine hurting my child.... council please stop them..... Long story short no more dirt is placed anywhere near a sporting field.

Then again demo sessions at certain times mutually benificial to organisers and surfers could/should be promoted why not.... espec if you get to have pipe for yourself lol that would be priceless!.

I know some of you would like to make a buck out of this persuit and getting in first with good product helps as with any bussiness and i'm not being a party pooper BUT while many are not into RC machines and handy with tools, mega waterproofing, boats/surfing,weights and balances, swimming, battery care and chargeingglues and resins glass and fibre etc etc etc not to mention the "maintenence and time" needed to be consistent....i hope wecan have a few more years surfin while the big cat is still within the bag...

YPC... what kind of video camera do you use in your vids.. It seems to have enough zoom your vids are cool.
Thinking of doing a helmet camnot Transmitter cam with a proper vid cam not a std digital cam...any tips on zoom rates hd antishake or anything worthy of mention... they are kinda expensive with so many variables its mindboggleing but you do have a methodical technical brain.... BTW until tripper visits you and shares his surfing tips try a banana... meaning think of nothing technical while surfing... just surf... while within your head is just well, just a dumb old banana!

Any tips from yourself or anyone most welcome. thanks bearcave.

Hey Guys.........I had a FAST - CHARGING - 2-5 ft face - Big Air Session this evening.......simply loved it.
Had to add some 'Black Sabbath' ......to sum it up..........hope you enjoy !

Hopefully tomorrow is even better !

Bearcave.......we use a pretty standard Digital Cannon S5IS -12X optical zoom camera.. I have been very lucky to have my lovely wife Lisa-Marie down at the beach with me so often to do the filming. I could never film this footage from my Pistol Grip camera.....it does not have the Zoom...

Been a surfer myself...it helps - BUT - learning to surf this little guy is a 'New Challenge'...... its great fun trying.

Hope the swell hits Maui.......
