John,
Thanks for the encouragement.
This afternoon I totally stripped and cleaned the board.
Put a new deck seal in as the old one was looking a bit thin.
Eventually knocked the seized coupler off the motor with some pliers and a hammer, lol.
Put a new coupler and shaft in.
I didn't have any grommets or fibreglass on hand so I covered over the water ports on the bottom with some marine grade Sikaflek.
May be ok for a temporal fix, I hope.

It was off shore today and very hot, I did get a few nice clean waves @ "Point Moore" for a couple of hours this morning.
I knew something was up because the board was not handling as well as usual.
That's when I found it had a ton of water in the hull.
Anyway, it is ready for a run in the morning.
Offshores and 2 foot or so, low tide at 7:30am.

Cananzi,
As you can see from Seb's comments.
Every time you change something, something else needs attention to rebalance the entire rig.
If you find a good balance, stick with it for a while.
Even my NiMh boards do some great airs, rolls and yes even double rolls or 360 twists etc.
But all that extra power Seb has is taking it to another dimension.
He is obviously still refining his new balance.
That is probably why he asked me about the Dudes weight.
I hope he doesn't get a strengthened Dude on that spaceship of his.

Seb,
Move over Roverand let Jimi take over.

Sea ya guys.

G'day Crew,
Got some cool waves @ "Greenough" this morning.
Haven'i been down there for a while.
Perfect 2 foot left and rights but the wind is screamin'.
It is currently a howly 35km/h ENE (Offshore) with gusts up to 55km/h.
33 degrees C and it's not even 9.00am yet.

Anyway, I ran 4 packs and got a couple of screamers and also got really slammed a few times.
No crazy airs, just good fun old school stylelong rideswith a few cutbacks and fast peeling sections, flicking out at the end section after about 5 or 6 seconds.
Did do a cool "Reese" style barrel roll and also a couple of big jumps on the way out though, that's always fun, looks so cool when they go straight up real high and come down nose first.
Also got 1 running along sideways under the lip for quite a distance on a fast hollow one and made it without wiping out.
The wind was that strong thatthe little Dudenearly couldn't get back up a few times.
The board ran real well and sponges only had a drip in them after 4 packs.
The hull stayed dry inside.
Alas, Bob had to go to work down the coast, so no pics, always the way, he often misses the best days.
I just can't force myself towalk aroundon the beach looking like a kook wearing a Gath hat in 40 degrees.

It will be awesome down there in a couple of hours when the wind backs off.
At least nothing broke today, yet, lol.

Is this video competition gonna be an Aerial comp or an RC surfing comp???
I really don't care what format, rules, who judges, how many judges, etc.
I will just be happy to try and get something together that I feel is worth submitting in.

Sea ya.

John,
Did you ask Brendon if him and Jason would like to be involved?
I gather you would have.

What about Dave Reese?
Is Spencer still alive?
I have asked about him several times if he still operates but no one responds or seems to know anything.
Whatever happened to him?
And where the **** is BB???

Let's try to get some of the old school crew that are still around to join in.

Thinkin' of hitting it again in an hour or so if the wind settles.
It is a half hour drive to "Greenough".
Board is cleaned, flushed, lubed and ready for another battering.

Crazy but fun!!!

Sea ya

Hey Seb,
Thanks for the nice comments. Hope all is well? We have been following the forum
and things seem to be heating up. As far as the video contest goes,
we have a few Lisa's and Board Sharks laying around to use instead
of our hybrid boards.
We have some pretty good video but, as you
know it takes a lot of time to view and edit.
Our friend Randy from Dana Point joined in with his
homemade RC Surfer and we got some pretty
nice rides in pretty big waves.
As we go through he footage we will post it.
Thanks again, Jock & John

Hey Curlzy,

With Seb leading the way in the "Air Department", you are gonna have to contact NASA and get a few pics taken from the space station.

Ha Ha Ha.

If he ever teams up with a pro quality video-camera operator like Dave, he could make a classic RC Surf movie  and call it "Lost in Space".

J. P. Curlz,
As for me, If I go back to "Greenough" today,
I'm gonna have to call a life gaurd to go and get my little Dude,
when he falls over in the rip and blows out to sea in this wind.
If I film that with my Gathcam do I get a booby prize???

Curlz,
Hang on a minute mate, there are no life gaurds at "Greenough".
Do you reckon you could get on the hooter for me,
and give Pammy a call and ask her to fly out here with her little red costume.
In order to film her rescuing my little fallen over Dude, I probably would wear my Gath-cam after all.
Surely I would have to get a prize for filming that.

Sea ya.

Jock

that was by far the best barrel Ive seen with an rc.

Guys

i dont wanna ruffle feathers but i dont think airs that land to the flat or in white wash should be high scoring if this comp goes aheadbecausetheyaren'tdifficult. I found a vid the other day where a guy aired( barrel roll) of the lip and landed perfectly down the face of the wave, now thats what i would calldifficulttrickbecauseitprecise its not just shoot for the lip and pray..I think i have seen one of sebs that landed down the face also which was wicked. Jocks barrel would def be something that should score very high points. I think there should be some sort ofrealismin the judging.

If it just ends up being a Air show then my leopard motor will be coming out of the cupboard and ill be buying some 4 cell batterys.......... and sendin my dudette to the moon

John Curlz,
That is exactly my point,  RC Surfing is so unique and we all know that it is awesome fun.
But it is kinda crazy, you know, against all the odds we all continue, just to get the wave, the pic, the vid, and now maybe the prize or even the title of World Champion RC Surfer.

You know, I have seen a lot of very boring RC threads since I started getting into this but this one is so unique.
I just clown around on here to add a bit of humour and fun.
That crazy sense of having outrageous fun often leads to new discussion and experimentation that otherwise may have remained dorment.
Otherwise we could have a deadly serious boring old thread that only talked about the hulls, leaks, batteries, electronics, Dudes annd Dolls, epoxy, fibreglass and the grommets etc.

I don't have any videos yet but I try to add a bit of colour with my pics and my garbage rambling on.
I think that it is hilarious to see what kind of responce will be waiting when I return to check the blog.
With all the pics and video links of our trials and tribulations and successes from everyone else like Goggz, Rainer, Cananzi, Seb, Maui, Surfergirl, and everyone else, this blog is a monster and I can't see it going away in a hurry.

We do have enough RC Surfing enthusiasts and combined knowledge to create a really fun international RC Surfing Club and Competition Schedule that will be organised enough that it can last, and we can all continue to share our information and have a good time while we are at it.

I am surprised that our moderator Justaddwata has allowed me to carry on like I do at times, but I am sure he thinks that the blog is hilarious as well as informative.

Sure, trying to win a comp of any description is taken seriously by the contestants but  I am certain there will always be a lot of laughs to be had along the way as well.

Good luck trying to work out all the details about the comp format,
I hope everyone gets behind you and helps to make us all the winners.

Thanks for having the balls to take the idea on in the first place.

Sea ya.

Cananzi,
Yes, that Extreme Maui barrel, is progressive for the sport.
I ain't seen nothin' like it.

I know what you mean about landing on the face and recovering to carry on.
My Kyosho Lisa did one the other day, it was just a simple roll off the top but it did land perfectly on the face and continue to surf down the line.
They are by far a better quality of air than a extreme closeout punt for sure.

This thing won't be just all about crazy airs anyway.

Good ol' long wall carving will always have its place in all forms of surfing mate, even in RC Surfing.
I am sure everyone agrees with that.

But I sure wish these plastic surfers could ride spitting tubes like that Maui shredder does, hey bro?

Sea ya.

I just wish the surf would get better for rc surfing on the gold coast.

It's been crap for months now offering 3 second faces to nasty closeout. Only one decent session with quality waves in almost 4 months now. With 20kt onshore winds predicted for the next week or two, I ain't holding my breath for any change soon.

On a non competition topic, we all make our own modifications, some we have shared and some we haven't, so I'll post a pic of my surfer and point out every modification. If the rest of you guy could do the same we could probably get a bit closer to the perfect maintenance-less surfer. 10 heads are better than one... I will post tonight.

Seb

while we are on the topic of sharing ;-)

I was acutally thinking of an idea that i would like to try and i mose well share it with you guys.

i havent designed anything yet but i was thinking of glassin some sort of fin of some sort to the side of the rail that will drag in the water making the board hug its rail in the barrel. i guess it would be alot of wrok but just imagin if it could work. wouldnt have to be a big fin just something to catch the water on the side thats hug the barrel wall.

Glue something on and see how it goes. My wing fin looked ridiculous, but I am not laughing now.

If it doesn't work just rip it off and start again.

I actually thought about putting small wings on the side of the board at a slight upwards angle to keep the board running straight and not bounce from side to side like it used too. Brett you might know what I mean, those large batteries really throw the balance of the surfer off. However the fin worked so I am not gluing anything to the side of the board now.

Try anything mate, nothing to lose and we can cross it off the "not to do" list.

i knowexactlywhat you mean with the big lipos. Its like the board needs to be wider or alotheavier orsomething. my enlarged tray ended up cracking , i was going to glass it back up but theres not much room for even another layer of glass!!! my 5000mah 3s lipos are huge lol i ended up rippin it out so im stuck with that board needing a tray. maybe i should build another tray and put some weight on the keel and give the 3sanothergo?? got 4x near new 3s batts sitting doing nothing!!

Brett, I used marine silicone to fill out the cut areas of the battery tray. It has a good level of flex in it and wont break so easy. It has broken before, but that was 5 months after i put the silicon in. Don't throw the board out.

EVERYTHING IS FIXABLE!!!!
