I’m currently in the process of upgrading my boat with a few modifications that have started off small & working my way all the way up to possibly a bigger engine if needed to get to where I want to be. Keep in mind I’m going to utilize almost every resource I can before spending the big dough on the new banger. This will include blueprinting the hull also if need be.
This is the rig:
Hull: Enforcer Super G
Engine: Zenoah G230RC w/clutch (23cc’s & 2.8hp @ 13k RPM)
Stock with can exhaust
Prop(s): P275 stock, P280 mod, & X470-3
Mix: 7oz of Pennzoil Synthetic to one Gal
Upgrades to be done: Two new props--- Mod P280, Octura X470-3. Also have a wet tuned exhaust to be added for the next series of tests.
The P280 was ran a few times to see how it did in stock form a few weeks ago. It lugged the engine pretty hard & never would wind out, so I cut the tongue area off, rounded the tips 3/16”, & added 1/8” rake or back cut. This is supposed to be good about helping the prop unload.
The X470-3, got the tongue cut off also, but no back cut. Besides that, both props received a good balance, sharpen & polishing.
Anyhow enough of the bs, I ran each prop at the same strut height (max’d out) & got these results per GPS…. Lol. Water conditions sucked as always because the boat stuck due to no ripples. Also notice I’m running without the trim tabs. Do any of you out there think that would help in top speed #’s ? I personally don’t so the reason for not using them. Maybe in the handling dept they would, but for straightaway testing I don’t think so.
The first photo posted you’ll see the lineup. L-R: New P275ss that hasn’t been touched, P280ss Mod, stock P275 beryllium copper, & last the X470-3 Mod before polishing. Also in there is the tuned pipe. (please ignore the plastic coupling, it will be fitted properly before use).
As always, I’m killing time & having fun doing it.

Posting this one for the hell of it, hope you can see it clear.
The rooster is laying pretty flat in this run. Obviously a good sign.
Now the catch is, I had the GPS in the boat while running the stock P275 & it ran consistent 38's. I saved that one for last but ran out of room on the camera.
Time to get the pipe ready & compare notes

Please note that this is how the package came per the article in RC Boat Modeler Magazine; hence the reason for my purchase.
The stock prop in this setup is the P275 that has turned out to be the best so far.

Yes, the engine cut off for the first time in 5 tanks on me yesterday.
That was due to running out of gas & not the fault of the carb settings.
Isn't gas a wonderful thing

Oh, right now I've got a small pole with a golf ball that I toss to it as long as its not past 100ft or so.
This weekend I'll bee working on a retrieval setup for my Blast. Looks like I'll be putting a wire straight out the back with a hoop so that I can drive in front of the big boat, hoop it, & pull away.
I've tried to pushing with the little one, but it just glances off, hence the idea of the above. Sounds good on paper, now lets see how reality works.

Steps for boat retreival
Step 1. Get Black Lab or other water loving dog.
Step 2. Teach dog to fetch tennis balls.
Step 3. Tether a tennis ball to the back of your boat.
(The most important step to boat retreival)
Step 4. Loose your boat.
Step 5. "Fetch Boy! Fetch!"

Are you unhappy with the topspeed of your boat or just tuning for something to do (like all of us do). I'm thinking of buying one but I haven't made up my mind. Nitro is out the door for sure. I don't want to buy a boat with a smaller motor (Homelite) and wish for more speed on the 2nd run. Know what I mean.

Hey Cat500,
The best way to describe it would be "I can accept the top speed of the stock boat".
Yes, like most folks, I'm tinkering looking at little things here and there that can help get that extra mph.
You buy this boat, you'll be happy also. She's stable as a rock !
Check out the vid and it'll give you an idea. That was taken with the stock exhaust.
Here's the link. Download the nokia player and decide for yourself.
My boat is under the name Doubledog.

I've put a lot of use on that boat this year. Early winter, it floods the fields and I was out there. Ice still around the egdes of our lakes. Easily, I'd say its got 4 gallons of gas through it and the things I've replaced are: The teflon tube for the flex shaft & lead bearings in the strut. Thats it.
To sum it up: Yes, I'm happy with it.
