Default I need help with this little boat project!!

Hello,
I am not exactly even sure this is a possible project but i need your opinions and help on how to make a rocket boat. The boat I hope to build could support a rocket engine used in the model rocket kits you put together. Well if u got any suggestions or any opinions, please i need all i can get!! Thanx...

Take pics. This is a question for Burntkat over on rec.models.rc.water. He's a loon.

My politically correct opinion is that it's dangerous. Maybe a small motor on a big boat would be 'safe'.

My personal opinion.....prepare to say goodbye to the boat and do it at the beach with nobody around. It'll be uncontrollable.

They DO have rocket R/C gliders, but you're talking about a plane that'll hit 500 feet in 3-4 seconds, then deadstick in a fast glide back down.

Default Rocket boat- why it does not work

Many people have tried to make Rocket powered or rocked assisted boats. Very few have even come close to making it work.
Here are the reasons it is not viable.
(1) resistance of the hull through the water is 100's of times greater than it is through air.
(2) CofG location and thrust angles change as the hull moves in the water.
(3) ride anges change as the hull accelerates.
(4) rocket burn is very time limited.
(5) on a solid fuel rocket, it can not be shut down once ignited.
(6) pulse jets, or liquid fuel rockets are not sensitive enough to throttle control, or have only one speed (full)
(7) fire danger is huge. (Great way to loose a pond or lake is to set it on fire. A plastic boat will burn for several min. before it sinks and the black smoke will certainly draw some attention.)

While it is a cool idea, I would suggest that you stick with props for boats, and leave the rockets for the sky.

If you want to try it anyway, good luck. Hope you dont hurt anyone including yourself.

mechanixkidi made a rocket boat about 2 months ago to take to my cottage to have some fun on the lake, i used c 6-7 rocket engines, they did the job excellent. i have got some pic's of it running its pretty awesome, cost about 20$ for the balsa wood used. if you are interested in the pictures send me an e-mail i would gladly send you the pic's.
