Default Making a comeback NEED ADVICE

Hey guys, well its the time of year where flying is out of the question now here in the uk as its eaither banging it down with rain at weekends or its blowing a gale outside.

So with that said thats my lame excuses for crawling back to rc cars.... im wanting something to build thats nitro not elec and i want somthing thats going to take punishment. there isnt really any good roads or car parks near me so somthing off road like the kyosho inferno would be my dream car.... however have any of you guys out there any advice on what car i should get.

also the mrs wants a mini or suburu (nitro) so help on that would be great too so she can have fun and it should lift my limits for upgrades in the future haha, any advice would be grately appreciated</p>

If you want a kit those are kind of rare outside Tamiyas

If monster Truck HPI Savage X or XL can take some royal abuse (RTR )
Buggy Hong Nor X1x CR (RTR again) Got one can take some decent abuse
Truggy Hong Nor X2 CRT (RTR) I got a X1 CRT and it is pretty durable. The X2 is supposed to be better in every way
Stadium truck HPI Bullet Don't own one (HPI won't sell em in the US...) but they are remade lightning GT10's that were known for being robust.

Basically it almost don't matter if you buy a RTR or kit seeing most RTR's should be completely taken apart before running to make sure the diffs and gears are shimmed right, and in the buggy and truggies case to add diff fluid and clean out the grease.

If you need any info on the hong nor X's look up reviews on Ofna Jammin's (what they are sold as in the US)

out of the 4 I named the savage will take the most punishment with the least broken parts (I only bash my RC's) The Jammin CRT would be #2 in abuse taking

Think HPI makes a RS4 evo 3 with a subaru body

thanks for that, allot has changed since i was last into cars. and it looks like i have allot to catch up on.....whats the rep like nowadays for the kyosho inferno mp7.5 as i still have a burning passion for one ever since i was a kid looking through the mags. i remember reading them on a night instead of the usual porn mags haha. to me back then anything with an rc was classed as porn to me.

i do like the look of the savages its just for some reason they dont really apeal to me.

as for the kit subject it dosnt really have to be a kit because like you said il end up ripping it apart to make sure everything is petrfect and not badly assembled.

Yo Crashalot, I have had my MP7.5 now for a couple of years and I can tell you its a blast even now against the newer generation of race bred buggies. The oposition still looks up at it to find insperation so if I was you just go to your local hobby store and get yourself the Kyosho.
You can find all the info you'll ever need for it on our forum here on Rcu, KYOSHO Inferno U.S sports, got check it out, there is alot to read about how to tune it up some aswell.
By the way, welcome back.

I was at a big hobby-fair yesterday, and stumbled upon the Kyosho DRX Rally car.. Was surprised by the impression of quality, AND the ground clearance... It's actually more like a 1/9, is priced well, and looks like a good call for being able to run off or on-road... Worth a look...

(not a kit though..)

I was running my SC8 today.. VERY fun truck....

Are you looking at 1:8 scale off-road for bashing? And what is your budget?

yeah 1/8th or 1/9th at least. il consider anything really new or used.... 2nd hand would be best due to costs ect. but depending on price wise i may be able to stretch to a new one at a push... im personaly looking at 100-200 GBP

I can't necessarily vouch for it, but I was intrigued.. I had a FW-05T onroader, and it was a very VERY good car...

The DRX I saw yesterday just looked really cool, gave an impression of quality, and yeah, it seemed like a good mix for offroad and onroad because of the clearance and suspension... That all comes from me just pressing on and fondling it at a stand though..

Still, I kind of want one having seen it..

Plus, here they're quite affordable, and because Kyosho has a huge range of RC's based on that same platform, parts should be easy to find(at least here..)

But yeah, that's kind of a lower of the budget spectrum option... There are tons of others.. SC8 is worth a look... Ran mine today with a Go 5-port .21 in it.. Lot of fun... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjNOlz-3Kek

Nowish is also a good time to pick up used race buggies and truggies, as racers sell theirs as the season comes to an end...

Agreed...great time to sit back and see what comes up on the selling sites. If you have the time, time and time....there will/are good choices of used stuff.

Bashing and Nitro....I would go truggy. A good used Mugen, X2, Losi, Kyosho....etc are good bets. You'll need spare parts. Ask yourself "what does the LHS have on offer?"

But remember, unless it's a pull start ([:@][:'(]) you'll need a bump starter or starter box. You'll need batteries, receiver and transmitter, etc. And then you'll want to go over the purchase with a fine tooth comb and just check what may need replacing....[&:]

You'll need tools, oils, grease, bearings.....it's a never ending cycle of consumables...

But Mate....it's a blast of an addiction....(as you know) ....and a bonus if your better half likes it as well...

yes i fully agree tommy the ts-4n i got amy is imaculate. thought only comes with engine. no radio or shell or anything else. i dont mind that for what i payed and its imaculate. end of the day a 2ch radio set is cheap enough to buy new same with a shell and she can paint it ect to what she wants. the chassis is a mere canvas for her.

i really want the kyosho inferno but all iv seeen so far are ones that look like they have been used and abused with no end to it. i waited and waited till i found a chassis for amy and it payed off finding that in such good condition.

here is amys it should be here midweek..... oh i only payed &pound;40 for it, hes keeping the reciever but leaving in the servos but there coming out as i have some metal geared ones from the planes thats high torque. another &pound;30 or so for a new radio and &pound;10 for a shell and &pound; for a tine of paint for the shell and shes off at less then &pound;100 which is cheap and chearfull and theres lots of parts for these on the bay

well just trying to update you guys on my progress.

Iv now bought 2 new 2.4ghz radio sets for both our cars. iv managed to drop on a kyosho inferno tr-15 that was for spares or repairs. il have to take some photos and upload them on here for you ugys. had to order quite a number of parts to get the kyosho back to being a complete car again as there where hugins of parts missing and damaged. mamaged to get a nice shell for the ts4n chassis for amy so that will keep her quiet. just waiting on the new bearing set from china for the tr-15 then il do a rebuild of it on here. oh also order 24x AA Batterys reachargeable from chine, got the 2300mah so they should work a treat in the radio gear.

heres what it shoudl look like but at the minute ut just a pile of parts
