I think ''hot women'' will always have a place in the world and will always be used as a marketing tool but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Thus the oxymoron ''pretty ugly''!
Example: Troy Built Models is always displaying this one skinny gal with a lime green padded top ( for obvious reasons ) in the most gawd awful contorted pose. I do not personally find this attractive in any way, shape,or form.
Two slices of bread does not make a sandwich!
There are many advertising ploys and gimmicks. Beauty, bizzar, ugly, etc. Notice that I have associated TBM with the skinny, contorted, unattractive girl but the add has achieved it's purpose. I remembered the TBM product add.
I would however say that I prefer ''classy'' over ''hot''.

I agree with you on that one. Even though my generation should like the "Hot" and "trashy" type. I'm only 15!
And yes, it does its job. It pretty much goes the same with my motocross magazines. I remember needing graphics, pipes, and clutch pads and those companies got my money.

It kinda cheesy to have a "hot model" holding a toy car...................it's kinda like a 10 year old girl advertising a full size 4x4 offroad truck or a 500HP sports car............seems a little off to me.........My wife is hot enough just do to the fact that she lets me spend $800 on a toy plane or car. Even if she didn't let me spend that money, my wife is still HOT.

I am far from being a prude but I dont need a hot chick to sell me on whether or not to buy an rc product.frankly I think its inappropriate given we have many young people participating in the hobby and I know sex sells in this country but it doesnt belong in rc .yes RCM did it back in the 70's but it didnt encourage me to buy the magazine since it was a subscription anyway.I love to look but theres a place and time for it ..

I am glad I got everyone's attention I am the thread starter.
Does anyone remember the Beavis & Butthead episode, where this ugly skank is running a phone sex line, and Beavis & Butthead think they are talking to some hot babe? Funnier then hell.
Like some of the others said though it just seems odd being your catering to audiences young and old a like.

How often does the average young'un have the money for a set of ceramic bearings tho? Even so, I was interested in fine females at a fairly early age and I cant imagine there are too many preteens running around parts sites like they know what to look for, even on RCU

Just the mere mention of an ad with girls in it works. I actually went to the Troy Built Models website, but unfortunately couldn't find the skinny gal with a lime green padded top.

Go to the giant 2-page add in this months issue of MA. She looks like she is having a seizure or something.

Yeah I gotta admit every time I see a hot babe holding up a Acer Bearing I just gotta have it!! Not, It is so stupid thinking people will buy your product because a hot babe is holding it. Now granted I love beautiful women as much as the next guy, but this turns me of
f. I buy rc products because i love the hobby not because running a certain rc product helped me to win over some hot babes!! Well I take that back when a woman saw me starting to put a boca bearing in my rc car it was like one of those old Hi Karate advertisments where the dudes had to fight off all of the hot women because he used their colone!!

NO... I actually find it extremely annoying and canceled my sub to one of the RC mags. It's not that I don't appreciate the models but I don't want my 6yr seeing this kind of stuff yet. My GF also finds it rather offensive and since she is new to the hobby I don't want anything to turn her off to it.
I've had this same complaint with 1:1 car mags as well. I buy the mag for the cars.... If I wanted nude models there are other mags for that...

Only one I find that looks decent is the last one.
I will be honest almost makes me want to spend my money there so they can afford to get better looking girls than scouring the gutters.

Well, you don't have to marry them.....LOL.
Now here's a case where I bought the mag on account of the cover (just to read the articles of course...I did own a 71 240Z for a number of years):

I honestly think its outstanding. Good looking women in tight, or next to nothing clothing catch my eye everytime. I dont understand men that are offended by it....RC is dominated by men/boys so why not advertise with the only GUARANTEED visual stimulant for men? Why must we be so uptight in regards to the female body when we know it gets a rise out of us.....
I doubt many of us buy the product for the woman alone, but it absolutely sparks our interest....maybe not on the bearing, but on the "bearing stand".......I say keep it up marketers...as long as it doesnt turn into a rc/pornographic partnership.

you cant make me buy something with good advertisement, but you can make me not buy by advertising.
