nitro motor questions
Im looking to get a nitro monster truck. There are a few on ebay that look decent.
I know traxxas has a 3.3 motor thats the biggest but how about other brands?
HPI has a 2.5, how is that for a motor compared to traxxas?

RE: nitro motor questions
OK, so, first off, biggest isn't always the best; the Monster GT 8.0, CEN GST 7.7, and HPI Savage XL 5.9 have the biggest engines.
None of them are particularly powerful or fast; the MGT 8.0 is bested by its little brother the MGT 4.6, the Savage XL is slaughtered in acceleration and top speed by its cousin the Savage X 4.6...and the Traxxas 3.3 is actually the SMALLEST of the major players' engines. The Revo 3.3 back when it debuted got walked on by ThunderbirdJunkie's Savage X 4.1 with nothing but a pipe and clutch, and ThunderbirdJunkie's mostly stock X 4.6 (different truck) with nothing but a pipe and clutch destroys most 3.3s in a drag race IF it can keep its front wheels on the ground.

RE: nitro motor questions
The TRX 2.5 and 3.3 are good engines but they're not very noob friendly. Also, Traxxas' break in method is made of failure. Rod failure. I suggest you get either a Savage or an MGT(You can have this in a 1/10 scale with a 3.0cc engine if you wanted). The big brutes aren't much more friendly, so steer clear of them until you have some experience.

RE: nitro motor questions
Maybe it's just because ThunderbirdJunkie is reasonably experienced with nitro, but the Savage X4.6's engine is cake to tune. It tunes almost as nicely as his OS .12TR in his XXX-NT. Arguably one of the best RTR MT mills ITBJHO.

RE: nitro motor questions
Fme and my impulse buying
Just won a MGT 4.6 on ebay for 180$ RTR.
Hoping anyway.
probably sell off my 1/8 caster but we will see.
NOW gonna look for tips to tweak the handeling of this, Mostly going to be bashing with a 3.3 revo, hoping to keep up.
