this is not a tamiya, but its actually a tamiya clone.
not sure the turn # of the motor that came with it, but id guess it is 15t. i put a losi lipo compatible ESC, oil filled shocks on the rear and this beater body that i think looks pretty cool on it.
i raced it against my buddies redcat caldera 10e(brushless) he had the stock 6cell nimh pack and i was using a 2s lipo. his truck was only alittle faster than this little brushed buggy. but it was pretty close!
the suspension is a blast. even a pebble can make it jump all over the place!
the front bumper had taken some damage where it mounts to the body, and i will have to fab up a stronger mount point soon.

hmm looks like a bootlegged hornet/grasshopper
only difference I can see is the front bumper is different. Looks like he crammed that body on it.
Gotta love tamiya bootlegs most seem to be able to use real tamiya parts for repair

Thats a cool looking little car. Get new rear tires and you might be faster than your friend. I had those tires on a XXX-T I used to have and they were useless once they wore down.

It came with a trashed grasshopper body on it. I put that dirt car body on it. had to get creative with the body posts.
except for where the bumper mounts it seems pretty sturdy.
yeah, the rear tires are pretty worn. but i have less than $100 in the thing, and for that money its pretty cool.
i think i paid $40 for the roller with motor and servo. then i put on the losi ESC($30) and a flysky Rx($10) and the body i got in a with a bunch of used bodies. and the shocks are $10 shocks from a redcat.

I actually gotta run my hornet one of these days. Built it weather was kinda bad since, then I kinda ripped the BL system out I had in it (yes I was slapping a BL setup in a hornet).
I do got some 2S lipos that fit nicely in it though

yeh, some of the older tamiya designs had gearboxes with very larger gears. so, they are able to hold upto brushless systems.
you can find lots of vids of lunchbox's with BL systems running 2 and eve 3s lipo! the wide gears place the stress over a large area, so even tho the gears are plastic they can hold up pretty well.

you think under $100 is cheap, i have running nitro kyoshos that have totalled under £30 in bash-able condition. not as snappy as i like to drive but a blast anyway
