From top of heatsink, about an hours worth of playing, Max temp of 179*F. I stuck a thermal temperature gage on the body. Electrical taped the sensor to the heatsink. Max temp is 179*F. I'm pretty thrilled about that =)

Nope. Dirt Buggy. But I have soft road rims and wheels when I want to run it on the road, so they go pretty fast. No 60MPH tho, just around 45.

Hey guys,Just checked on some parts and Excel hobby has just got the bearing sets and headers and mufflers for the cars, they also have a part # for a two speed trasmission but no price yet.I'm really pleased with the car and hope two get it to at least 60 or 65 mph. They are pretty fast for a beginner car. This is my first Nitro car and so far I've really enjoyed it.I run 10% nitro in my car but what do most of you run?Really, yes, these are cheap cars but you can also have an entire
parts supply on hand because of the prices.I really would like to know what type of wheels to buy and what companies are compatable with smartech.

179F is actually a bit too cold....BUT !, I don`t think your measuring the correct temp, you need to take the temp at the glow plug area(the head button basically). The temp at the top of the heat sink is going to be a lot cooler than closer down near the combustion chamber, what king of electric temp guage are you using ?

machine is right, you need to take the temp at the very bottom or the head, it will be about 20-40 degrees warmer. 179 is way too cold and thats not good. your engine will run alot better if you get it to the recomended temp(usually about 220 to 260).

Yep...
Colder is NOT better!
Why do you think diesels have engine block heaters?!! The "operating temperature" is more like 200F-275F.
Also remember that running it richer uses more fuel. This means that in a race you'll have to refuel more often (ok I'm pushing it..)
One good Idea that I had was: I used thermal paste when attaching my heatsink. This reduced the diccerence in temperature between the button and the cooling head from 40 degrees to 10 degrees!! The cooling head got hotter, which means the engine got cooler!

I think the reason you got it at 170 F is because you measured it from the top, shouldn't you measure the temperature from teh glow plug or around that area?
I also agree with BUGGIES_R_US that colder is definately not better since the engine won't get enough heat to properly break in and expand the piston/sleeve.
