Hey I have a Velocity .17 and I was wondering if anyone knew which engines would fit to replace it? Does is just bolt in? Do I have to mod my frame or anything to put in like a .15?
Thanks

mark - all small blocks (.12 - .18) are the same size on the outside. any of these sizes will fit in without modifications. I would suggest the OS .15CV-X if u are on a budget, it will prodice about the same amount of power, but be MUCH more reliable. If u have a lil more to spend, go with the OS .15CV-RX - it will produce more power than 2 of the velocity's and also have the same famous OS reliability. The CV-X is about 90.00 and the CV-RX is about 130.00 both at tower hobbies.

Nitroaddict is correct about the "small blocks". The mounting locations are the same for all.
I too have a velocity .17 and considering moving up to a .21. Since I'm a machinist and it’s nothing to throw the chassis into the mill, I may just do it although most say I’ll be overpowering my truck. Thing is, I don’t care. A clutch upgrade, a little different gearing……… Hey, I’m just having fun.

I checked out the OS .15CV-RX and it says that the short crankshaft is is intended for like a rc10gt....Associated cars.
What difference does it make and will it still work in my Duratrax Overdrive ST?
Thanks

After further checking………
The bolt (screw) that goes through the spur gears and clutch would have to be a tad longer to make up the difference. The shorter crank snout is “very shorter”. And, just to let you know, when Overdrive ST’s first came out, they had .15’s.

rustler - there are three types of shafts, all of which are available for the OS engines.
Short (SG) shaft - this is designed for the Team associated cars
Standard shaft - this is the shaft for your Truck
Pilot shaft - extended shaft, for use with kyosho, losi, ect
go with the standard shaft, and it will be a direct fit

Aha!!
Prime example of one of the reasons I come here.
I’ve never done engine swaps in an RC car so I never read into it (I’ve never had to replace one period).
So thank you Nitroaddict, I learned something new today.

What .18 are you getting??
How much of a difference do people notice between a .15 and a .18, are there .15 that are more powerful than a .18??

rustler mark, almost every .12 race engine, such as the OS .12TR, the Novarossi lineup, the mugen MT12, are much more powerful than any .18 out there.
The only .18's that have any real guts are the Sirio and the Fantom FR. They put out about 1.3hp each. But the .15CV-r by os and the .12TR by os both put out 1.25, so hardly a difference. The Novarossi P5 puts out 1.65hp, now that will send ya for a loop

So pretty much any engine that I replace my Velocity .17 with will be lots better??? If my engine is running fine, is it worth upgrading just for speed/power?

corey - i said almost every .18 - not all of them - dont get your panties in a bunch
rustler - here is the new Novarossi:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEPH4&P=0
I would STRONGLY recommend against that engine though, unless u are a professional racer - as it is almost impossible to tune, will not idle for more than about 10 seconds, and will require a strong ability to manipulate an engine - it is for racing only.
for a replacement of the velocity .17 - get the OS .15CV-R below:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXALL5&P=0
this engine still produces more than TWICE the hp of the engine u have now. is inexpensive, and has the famous OS Max reliability
