Spektrum $129.99 VS 4PL $249.99
A simple poll just to see how many people on the forums run Futaba or Spektrum. I run both but feel
the Futaba radios are better quality and longer lasting. Im getting a new radio soon, should i get both
just for experimental purposes just to see which radio is better than the other. I also added a servo option.

I like Spektrum; the DX3c is my favorite. It's a professional radio that does not cost an arm and leg. And its light. REALLY light.

You can't really compare the 4PL to the DX3C, atleast I'm assuming that's the one you're referring to for $129.99 The 4PL more closely compares to the DX4S in terms of features and price but, it's really somewhere in between the two. Also, none of the Futaba surface systems offer telemetry. I have always used Futaba radios in my RCs but, I believe that it's easier to find inexpensive Spektrum compatible receivers. There are more "BND" vehicles on the market and for the most part, second-hand Spektrum receivers are more plentiful compared to Futaba FHSSreceivers.
If you're real hard-core then you can move up to Futaba FASST equipment but, it's not cheap and the least expensive receivers are no less than $75 on Ebay. HK sells comatible brands but I haven't personally tried them; though I'm tempted too. Additionally, most of us, including myself, aren't skilled enough to notice the faster response times advertised for FASST systems. So, in the end a 4PL or DX4S make more sense if you need 4 channels. Otherwise, a DX3C or 3S are great radios. Ihave personally used a 3S.
Now let's not forget the new MT4 which has the RC community raving, so to speak. My brother bought one because he said the receivers are affordable, it has 4 channels with steering mix and can do telemetry. It's a bit pricier at $299 but is nonetheless a great system.

Baed on my research, it seemsthe "hobby-grade" receivers are a commodity and it really depends on what your requirements are that dicatate the price-point you want to incur. For me, it's a radio that is fast, accurate, durable, and comfortable. I also want to it is compatible with easy-to-find receivers.Whether it is $30.99,$129.00, or$250.00, as long as it meets my needs, that is good.
I don't require it to remember more than 20+ models(at least not right now). I don't rock crawl, so channel mixing is not of interest. As for speed, I'm not astute enough to tell the difference.00000005 second difference. ;-)

But want the 4PL because the recievers are $50. I'll probably get the DX3C first because it's cheaper. It's probably a good budget radio.
I like being able to adjust the servo parimenters and the 3C does just that.

the DX3C is a good radio and has a lot of features for the price. I was ranting about the FASST systems because Iown a 3PKS and while I do appreciate it and know it's an excellent high-end radio; the damn receivers are NOT cheap. I have 3 now only because Ibought the other 2 from Scratch N Dent inventories or on Ebay.

I greatly dislike the Spektrum radios...they have the shortest range of all the brands....and because of that short range have the highest chance of a runaway...........definitely not a radio I would own...

the budget radio I suggest is the Airtronics MT4.....it kicks the Futaba and Spektrums ass in range, will have over triple the range of the Spektrum.....

the spektrums go about as far as you cant see the car anymore even then the car if it's electric tends to shutoff when out of range.
I defintley would not use the spektrum in nitro machines. I love 2.4 GHz radios because you dont have to worry about frequency problems like the old days.

never had a good experince with hitec radios or servos. I have thier new lipo charger the X4 A/C plus. Chargers is the only good thing they make unfortunatley. Airtronics isnt very good for a serface radio. Airtronics is really made for small aircraft.

If i had the cash, and the need, I will get the airtronics mt4 for my thunder tiger mt4. Not because of the same name, but I get a great radio, with all the features I will ever need and it has telemetery, I would like to check temps while out bashing. But now I am using my stock thunder tiger radio which does the job great and until it catches fire or something I won't be changing radios.
