frustration and fun

I took my SC10 and Vaterra Kalahari to the track last night. 1st time Ive entered the vaterra class.
I blew a hole in my good SC10 rear tires last week, so I only had stock tires to run. My truck's rear was all over the place during practice. But the guy's at my track are a really nice lot and before the 1st race we had the truck dialed in much better. Still loose, but controllable.
Sadly, half way threw the 1st race one of my connectors came part loose, letting the ESC go into low voltage mode
2nd heat....a camber link ball on the rear snapped, on what seemed like a good landing. This truck is old, has been raced last year and bashed all summer. Lucky, I had another ball link in my box.
finals for the sct b main I managed to finish the race and come in 6th. Not that great, but I finished an had a fairly clean race. Well, I did accidently hold up the race leader....didn't realize he was lapping me and rubbed him in a couple of corners before I realized the announcer was yelling at me...lol.
The vaterra on the other hand ran perfect! And these things handle the SCT track layout very well. You have to go a bit slower on some of the jumps because it can nose into the ground on the other side if you get to much air, but otherwise they are great. They turn awesome and even with the stock nimh pack are fast.
I finished 4th in the b main....basically dead center of the pack. Not bad for my 1st time racing the truck. I ran it box stock. I know some other guys have tweaked the suspension (oil and vaterra springs/spacers and spur gears are the only mods allowed)
Im glad I had entered the vaterra, otherwise the night would have been a bust with the SC10 failing to complete the first 2 heats. Looks like she will need an overhaul before the next race night!
Oh, side note. Can you believe a ball diff for the SC10 is $42! Holy crap that is expensive. Mine I bought used and has a ball diff...which I
re-greased before last night as it was starting to make some noise. Lucky the grease did the trick, cause if it needed to be replaced I would be hard pressed to spend $42. The hobby shop doesn't even put the ball diff out on the team associated wall....they keep them behind the counter because they were "disappearing".
