Default a traxxas clone?

scrolling threw ebay I found an ad for a 1/16 drift car. there were few pictures, but the picture of the box made it look like a mini revo chassis.

I found a website that sells this Drift car SY-1.
I cant copy the pics from the site, so youll have to click to see....but the chassis has the exact same layout as a merv.
It even comes with a 1500mah lipo, and it has 2 battery trays.
I don't have a merv, so I cant say if the suspension arms look right or not.
But I find it funny....on the car's body it reads "GTR SLASH ING". The type for slash even looks the same as traxxas uses.

Clone, direct copy, rip off?

This is the first time I have ever seen another brands model look soo much like a traxxas model.

here is the site:

here is one picture from another site that shows the underside;

there is a short course truck version as well. These models are listed under "tools" on the site. The site kinda looks like it sells lots of cheap knock-off stuff. You have to be a member tho?

$112 rtr is tempting.

Is it a full copy, or just a knockoff tho? I would think if it were a carbon copy that traxxas would be all over it. If it is a knockoff with just enough changes that they can get away with it, wonder then how many traxxas parts would fit.

I know back with Tamiya there were lots of clones and knockoffs. And some have thought certain redcat models looked like they copied other brands. But traxxas is big and id think they wouldn't put up with that.

no clue how much is the same, but it might have just enough differences with the chassis design.
Then there is the whole Chinese copyright laws, and how strictly they are enforced

Yea right I was actually laughing while typing the prior line to the point I had 7 typos

If they fixed the Traxxas' Diff Problems, I'd snatch one up in an instant.

I don't know, clone of not, those make horrible touring cars.... it would have to be the world highest COG TC ever.... I use to have a brushless KenBlock and if u put some decent rubbers on it, it would traction roll... seriously TC's are not meant to traction roll.
from experience I can say a Traxxas Telluride with a VXL combo if faster and handles a ship load better... even with offroad tyres lol

have u guys seen the 4x4 slash clone?

I have the SY-2 upgraded version with bearings and metal driveline parts. It's not a bad little truck for the price, but as far as I can tell, nothing interchanges with the traxxas except for tires and maybe shocks. You can swap bodies of course, I have a Jconcepts 1/16 slash body that the wheelbase lines up on. The plastic on this model is really flexible which may be why I haven't had any trouble, other that with servo mounting. Here's a few pics of mine.

Nice! Have you noticed any differential problems?

No, but I've never been hard on it either. Between a lack of interest in rc, and the stock friction shocks, I've not run it much. Just pavement runs enough to dial in the radio. I am curious though, might take it apart and see whats actually in there. The truck came with a diff part for drifting, it's a spool for the front, with the ring gear all made together in a solid piece of plastic. I was surprised at the diameter of the drivelines too, and the axles are CVD style rather than dogbones. I suspect the hub/control arm connection will be the weak point, completely different design than traxxas by the way.

Forgot to mention, the hardware was better than expected as well, all allen head, most counter sunk.

I have a 1/10 remo hobby 9 emu sct which is a traxxas slash 4x4 clone it's awesome !!!! And at half the cost I can't complain it takes all the abuse I throw at it. My neighbor has broke 2 traxxas chassis keeping up with my clone. I'm still on chassis 1 no cracks. Just food for thought. I'm happy and still have money in my pocket just sayin!!!

p.s. All traxxas part fit including aftermarket parts.
