Default Needing some help

Hi, I'm not too familiar with this forum, but I'm in desperate need of some help. My dad had an rc car when he was younger, he got it for an xmas gift but shortly after receiving it, his dad took it from him and his brother got it instead. He said that was his worst xmas memory. I wld like to get him one like it for his bday. He said it was either a 1962 or 63 white cadillac with fins. It was an rc that only moved front and backwards. I don't have any idea as to where to even begin to find one. I've done alot of go ogling with no results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This forum is not for toy RC cars, but we can help you put something together that is modern that is like the toy he got long ago. I'd start here...

Body (thinking this is like what he had?); http://www.gravesrc.com/par10152-par...ody-200mm.html

RC Car. Now I don't normally choose Redcat, but just for fun like this, it is a good option for you. https://www.rcplanet.com/redcat-ligh...FYEZgQodpuECow

Tires/Wheels (to make it a non-drift vehicle); http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/3717934...&ul_noapp=true

Battery Adapter for both charging and running; https://www.rcplanet.com/Redcat_Raci...FVE9gQodXfUAwg

Battery; https://www.atomikrc.com/collections...ase-w-uni-plug

Charger; https://www.amazon.com/Venom-LiPo-Sp.../dp/B00T05IBK2

Now you will need to paint the body, but that is easy. Get some Tamiya RC spray paint in the white color he likes, and paint it like you would anything else.

KiLeeO, when you say only moved forward and backward do you men it didn't turn? Or was it one that turn one direction only and only when going backwards? If it turned both directions going for wads was it proportional or just full left, full right and straight.
What collector1231 discusses above does not seem to me to be anywhere near an entry level car/truck. My stepson got his Grasshopper when he was about 8 sent by his father for Christmas. While his father did a lot of the assemply I would up doing most of it. It was pretty basic.

How is it nowhere near an entry level RC? Its an RTR that requires only a little bit of work to look good.

Yeah, that seems to be a good setup for what you plan. You probably won't find anything much cheaper. It is not basic like the one KiLeeO mentioned, but finding such a basic car will not be easy, especially with that body style. Pretty much all new rc's have ATLEAST steering.

You could also try to find a old model that is very similar to the one your dad got, but that would be very difficult, time consuming and probably more expensive than the setup that collector mentioned.

Ok let me explain a little more maybe. I'm not too familiar with any of it. My dad got this as an xmas gift when HE was just a child, but it was his worst xmas because right after getting this toy rc car his dad took it away and gave it to his brother. I just wanted to get him kne to change his memory of this event.I literally know much of nothing other than the info I posted due to not being born yet, lol. I'm guessing it only turned when in reverse? I just thought this was an rc site and that maybe someone cld give some helpful suggestions.

Ok, but are you looking for a normal rc truck/car/buggy like this one: http://www.towerhobbies.com/products...as/trad45.html (just a example)?

Or are you looking for a rc car that looks like the one that your dad got when he was a kid? This would narrow your choices.

Do try to find the Rc car that fits your desire to to accomplish the task you have in mind
The car you need would be classified as antique very early RC stuff and may have a big price tag to its age
There is an RC car foram right on this site but they deal with more current equipment

You could always buy your dad a very nice newer higher tech car that somehow i am very sure he and you could have a real good time with

You know just maybe your dads dad thought that the car he gave your dad was not age apropriate and that he would get hurt or damage the car to easily
it could have been more of an adult toy than for a child as it was given to another adult
So the real issue was that your dads dad made a bad purchase for the child
Just saying sometimes things are not what they may appear but there should have been some communication on your dads fathers part i would think

Hope you come up with something nice for your dad as you are being a very thoughtful son and you are about to make a very bonding memory fornthe both of you - just love it !!

Happy New Year

Enjoy

The only thing I found was this
http://www.jevries.com/rclowriders.html
Guy does a lot of custom work. He may be able to build one for you or guide you in the right direction. I will keep looking though.

Here is something else you might want to look at. Looks and sounds pretty close to what you described.
