depends. If you are just bashing, with an occasional local race thrown in - i would recommend the OS .15 CV-RX

It is resonably priced - and is one of the most powerful engines out there. Top it all off with legendary OS reliability, and u cant lose.

Other good choices would be:

OS .12CV-RX
Fantom .15FR
Fantom .18FR
HPI .12SS

I have had a few different cars and quite a few different engines. I sold most of the race level cars but still run my RS4 Racer here and there.
It has a Mugen MT-12 in it and man does it fly around the track. The RS4 is not on the same level as the race breed cars but its very cheap and light. The MT-12 hauls this thing around the like a rocket....lol

I think they still go for around $150 or so online, maybe even a bit cheaper if you look in the right places.
You would need to be sure and get the standard shaft if you decided to try one.

This is in my opinion one of the best most powerful engines out there.

The O.S stuff as mentioned in previous post in my opinion is good stuff too, I also hear the Fantom engines are really good.

I think you would be happy with any of these.

dbow - i personally am a huge fan of the Mugen MT12 and MR12, and it in one of my NTC3's - however, due to its rear exhaust, slide carb configuration - it wont fit in a RS4-3 without MAJOR modifications.

Actually the RS4-3 can support the slide carb just by switching the throtle servo horn. But he would have to buy a new manifold for it. And for the engine any of the ones mentioned would be great in your car.

Thanks,
ZIZI

ahhh I didnt catch the Rs4 3 part, I looked in the sig and see it now. I have seen these in this car along with sirio's and so forth, but I had no idea that a lot of mods were needed to make them fit.
