I'm trying to find a used Hyper 7 to purchase but don't know the difference between the PBS and regular Hyper 7 RTR. I can see one comes with starter box but what else separates them? Do both come with steel spur gear? Can someone list the differences. If anyone wants to sell a Hyper 7 let me know. Also looking at a used GS Storm. Thanks

The main difference between the two is that the Hyper 7 RTR uses a C-hub design while the PBS uses the Pivot Ball Suspension. As you mentioned, the PBS comes with both the pullstart and the starterbox. The PBS also has a center Spider gear where the Hyper 7 RTR uses a standard center diff. The only other REAL difference is that the PBS uses a combination of CVA's and Universals while the Hyper 7 RTR uses CVA's only. Both are also steel spur designs.
Outside of that, the differences are cosmetic in that they Hyper 7 RTR has a different color shceme, wheels and tires. That's about it!

so if I was looking for a buggy to bash and be competitive at local track races they would be considered equal? How about the engine, is the PBS engine more competitive? In your opinion is the PBS a much better setup for entry level racing? Thanks for the advice!

dagass - u forgot the MOST IMPORTANT difference of all!!!!!
The pbs comes with a hyper 8 port engine, while the rtr comes with the std 4 port hyper. Huge didd, huge!
go with the PBS. not only do u get the adjustability of the pivot ball suspension, but u also get a starter box, a great engine, and its only 70.00 more!

Oh yeah, Losi,
Personally, I'd go with the PBS. In my experience, it's as close to bulletproof as a buggy can be and definitely holds it's own at the track. Ther is a guy at our local track though that has the Hyper 7 RTR and he kicks some pretty good butt. He's an outstanding driver. I've never seen a Hyper 7 RTR bash though so I don't know if there is any durability issues there.
The one other thing about the Hyper 7 RTR that I don't like is all the purple aluminum. It's purely a cosmetic thing but it's a little too much color for me. I like the natural aluminum look used on the PBS.

I just got a Hyper 7 RTR, it came with an 8 port but with a pullstarter (I want to diss that for a non-pull backplate) and toss on my #20E OS carb. I personally would prefer PBS, but I'll eventually get the PBS conversion anyways since I enjoyed the PBS setup on my MBX.
Personally I would go with either, the PBS is a better value for dollar since it comes with a starter box and extra equip and a dazzling body style.

I love my PBS - It rocks. My only problem is no matter if lock tite the screws or not they seem to back out. That goes for any offroad really. Even if locktite after a while it will still come back out.
So take apart and clean and relocktite frequently no matter what you get.
As for the pull start. everyone I have seen does not have the pull start. Is it different part # or is it just luck of the draw???? I hated the starter box it came with and boguth the OFNA silver top box.

The newer PBS are shipping with both a pullstart and a starterbox. Ofna got so much crap because the starterbox that came with the PBS couldn't turn over a new 8 port, so they decided to start including a pullstart with the PBS. The new ones are easy to recognize because they have a black head with a purple cap on them.

The hyper 7 RTR now comes with an 8 port. Woo Hoo!
