Lap timing system
Looking to find information on lap counting timimg systems. Years ago I used to race and we had rechareable transponders that hooked to the cars. There was a counter that the cars ran under at the start finish line and it would give lap times and lap number. THis system was hooked to a computer and we could print the results and times of each race. I think that it would do 10 cars. Any ideas on who makes this kind of system? Thanks Chuck

There are several options for personal lap counting.
There are a few radios on the market that have internal timing systems. In most cases you set the program and hit a button everytime you come around for a lap.
I have it on my Futaba 3PJS and it works just fine, it is somewhat cumbersome though having to thumb the button everytime I come around on a lap. Sometimes I forget and it effects the driving style a bit because it takes your focus off of the driving.
The second option was listed in the previous post, there are programs that you can run on a laptop that you can take to the track. The problem is that the laptop must be have person pushing the buttons as cars come around. It is very common for several cars to come around at the same time and it can make it difficult to keep up with.

I have never tried one but it looks like a good setup. From what I read additional transponders can be bought for it so you can have more than one racer using it.
Not a bad price either considering that a real lap counting setup runs about $3000 or so.
