RE: QUESTIONONBATTERIES
i know but.. i read on another thread. and they recommend a discharger cuz they say killing the battery my way, " letting the car run upside down till wheels stop turnin" isnt healthy for the batteries.. is it true?[&:]

RE: QUESTIONONBATTERIES
Believe it or not. I was in to electric RC cars over 13 years ago. I just recently started to get back into the hobby. I was able to get life back into my batteries. Actually only half of my batteries packs made it (5). I have the sanyo 1700mah SCE (NI-CD). I just run the batteries down just before my ESC will sent my car off running. And sometimes it just runs away and I have to chase it. I run with BEC. I charge them the night before I plan to play. That's how I did if back then and the batteries still works. I do plan to by the 3000mah batteries and a new charger for the NI-MH.
I had to cycle my batteries to bring them back to life. Now, I used a discharger to discharge the batteries. You have to monitor the voltage it draws down to. It get very HOT so be careful (discharger & battery). Also if you have computer fans 12VDC, hook them up to discharge and to cool off your batteries at the same time. It's very slow, a set of car bulb can discharge your batteries also, DON"T let it run down until dead. I don't remeber what was the voltage to run them down to. I guess/hope the newer discharger shuts down automaticlly when the battery get low.
I use a 120VAC computer fan to cool off my power supply, battery charger & batteries. HEAT is killer for batteries. NEVER recharge your battery pack after a hard run. It will be HOT. Only charge the batteries when they have cooled down.
Now with the newer batteries NI-MH I'm not 100% sure what will or will not work. I plan to do the same as I did back then. Hope this helps.

RE: QUESTIONONBATTERIES
my batteries charge to about 8.94 volts then when i finish running them (when my car goes 5 mph) they are about 7.20 volts ... then i just let them cool and charge them up... i have never used a discharger or anything to do with the batteries besided installing deans

RE: QUESTIONONBATTERIES
You could make your own discharger for less than $20. Use some lightbulbs and solder them up. Here's a link: http://www.balakracing.com/bulbdischarger.htm

RE: QUESTIONONBATTERIES
For storage, i hear its better to leave 3300's charged a little bit. It does not hurt them to leave them charged like NiCad's. Ive heard you can even kill it half way and recharge it without a memory issue. A single cell discharger is still recomended to make sure each cell carries the same amount of charge...

RE: QUESTIONONBATTERIES
discharging batteries is unique to nicads because of there inherent memory effect. NIMH batteries do not have a memory effect and do not require discharging. Also fastcharging batteries are not healthy for them. The rule of thumb i use is to not charge them at a rate that exceeds there rating. So i would charge a battery rated at 3300mah at no more than 3300 mah or 3,3 amps. This would charge a totally dead battery in about an hour.

nimh = nickel metal hydrate (i think) have no memory require absolutley no maintence
nicd = Nickel cadium... require maintence and must be discharged

RE: QUESTIONONBATTERIES
im not sure if you batterys are nimhs but its not a good idea to run them till the wheels stop... when my car only goes about 10 mph i just take them out, let them cool, and just charge them again
