Default Tyco Terrain Twister

I just saw a commercial for one of these and they look absolutely crazy

$49.99 @ Amazon.com
$54.87 @ Walmart
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...419483-4320722

What do you guys think? Is it worth the money? I have a friend who works at Walmart so he can pick it up for me w/the employee discount and there's no shipping costs.

I think if you made a hobby quality one, it'd have to be electric, because there's no way to work a drive shaft into the thing.

I bet it'd have some really badass suspension though.
buggy shocks anyone?
It definitely has to have dual 'lectric motors though and since they show it driving through water, i guess those screw pods are sealed

I bet its slow as mollases, especially in the grass or on a smooth surface.

Probobly works good on water or snow though.

I dont see how the twister things could get sufficiant traction to go through grass. My nitro offroad buggy even has trouble going through grass.

Save your money and buy some hop-ups or something for your cars.

Just wait till christmas, one of the neighbors kids is bound get one, then you can decide if its worth it.

Actually, it should have no issues moving on grass. The whole auger concept relies on having "traction" or substance (be it sand, snow, water, or grass) for the sides the auger blades to press against. On smooth surfaces, this doesn't exist (meaning that if will go nowhere on a glass table top).

I would get it then convert it to hobby quality
It looks like a cool base and i considered getting it too (but I'm poor)
I would put 2 esc in it to control the separate motors and see about upgrading them too if you could
The tyco and radioshack cars usually use 300 size motors in there larger cars (like this thing)
It would be a cool hobby quality controlled rc tank kile thing
It does not appear to have suspention though but it still looks unstopable.

I said it was neat, I never said I'd actually do it...but you can't deny the brillance in engineering.
I guess the Nitro Blizzard sucks too:P

well at least it is different - if you can get it mates rates then why not - it looks like an amusing afternoon.....

- I have a simple rule when buying something - will I spend more time getting pleasure out of it than it took me to earn the money to buy it? - if the answer is yes then it is probably worth the crack.....

I believe in WWII they experimented with vehicles with auger drive. They were able to drive on water and beach themselves with no drive conversion, wheels/prop. They were doog runners on ground also. I saw a video of one once, it was bouncy and cool as enything.

The design of the screw drive is currently used in muddy, wet commercial industries where giant flotation tires are not practical. There is no reason to bash this design, it is actually very innovative and well designed. I have one and am currently hopping it up with hobby grade tank electrics, quite amazing what it can do.
