I just bought a electric hummer h2 from radio shack and was wanting to know if it possable to put a gas engin or up grade it to get longer run time

longer run time would be putting a better battery pack in, but upgrading it to nitro is possibly, but you have alot of plastic, so you have to ben and replcae platic with metal, plus you have to connect the drive tran and everything, so its cheaper and easier to get areal nitro, like a RC10GT, or a tower st-15

If I was you, I wouldn't even mess with radio shack cars. they are toys. pro rc cars are models. they are built to go fast and are capable of handling well at high speeds. If you really want to have some fun with that radio shack car, i suggest you get some duct tape and strap a few model rocket engines to it. then, however breifly, it might actually go as fast as a pro car. have fun.

My Feedback: (11)
What's the point of insulting and degrading a vehicle he already has? Let's use some common sense here. The purpose of this forum is to share ideas, talk about our toys (yes TOYS), and help others. The purpose is NOT to be an internet bully.
Now to answer the question at hand. If you're looking for longer run-times, you need to purchase batteries with a higher capacity (such as a 3600 mah pack). This may also require the purchase of a new battery charger with peak detection.

i had a radio shack chevy avalanche so i am familiar with the truck you have. (dont ask) radio shack just slaps different bodies on the same chassis each year. i am pretty sure that you would be able to upgrade the electronics as well and with some "macguyvereering" and ingenuity you would be able to put in a new steering servo.then you would be able to change the motor and get some real perfomance. but you would endup spending more than you paid for hte truck. if you can, IMHO, return the truck and invest in a higher quality truck. how did you endup with the truck? bought or gift?

Good batteries and good battery management are the keys to extended run times with electric. Along with the above, regular maintenance to remove friction causing crap from the drive components and cleaning your motor will also help. Not being familiar with radio shack cars I don't know what kind of ESC they have, but if it's something you can change, going to a more efficient ESC will also have a big impact on run time.
Last of all, to quote a Dubro ad i heard: "Never buy an RC vehicle for which spare parts are not available."

most radio shack vehicles have giant circuit boards for ESCs.
A proper speed controller will work wonders & if this RS truck is like any other, you'll have gobs of empty space to put batteries in
